Never understood the concept of BBQs,why do you feel the need to cook food outside just because its warm,overcooked/undercooked, flies, bits of shit in the air, messy, if you really feel the need to eat outside why not cook it all in the kitchen and bring it out, someone please explain this to me |

Love ours we cook outside most nights, and often Wildcamp and cook outside in normal times.
Why do you want all the smoke smell and mess in your house when it’s a beautiful summer evening ?
Charcoal grilled food seasoned properly tastes much better than fried, oven cooked etc
You can cook more food more easily , I can cook for 4-8 easily in 15-20 mins

Smoke off the bbq tends to keep the flies away and also not many flies in the evening which is when I normally go to bbqs! |

Barbecuing is a great way to cook, but you have to know how to do it right like all other forms of cooking. Heat control and technique are important, otherwise you tend to get horrible chunks of char.
Also, a lot of people go cheap when they bbq, it's hard to get a good result if you don't have good ingredients. |

Did a whole chicken in a Dutch oven yesterday. Rubbed on herby/spicy stuff, wrapped it in foil, put it in the oven. Tasty. |

For starters it's a primal thing, that's why guys usually take over the grill.
Back in Oz we'd barbie all the time and under the varander we'd have sinks and kitchen units, even a bar fridge. It's all part of the occasion...

There's a whole lot if cooking on a bbq.
Once the coals are of white ash. You can cook.
At it's hottest do pizzas.
Then the bbq meats.
Then dutch oven in the embers, for a stew next day.

Because the sun can't come indoors. If you are stuck inside all day due to work it's nice to get some sunshine when it arrives. I also do my ironing outside and prefer to exercise outside than go to the gym in the summer.
I don't know what people are talking about when they say it's hard work doing a BBQ or that the food isn't cooked properly. You pour some charcoal in, place 3 firelighters in a triangle shape, light them, build up a pyramid of charcoal, chat to your friends and family, drink too much, dance around your garden, take a look at the BBQ and spread the charcoal around now that it has gone white, stick some meat on, squirt someone with the hose, turn the meat over, watch someone fall off one of those white plastic chairs, piss yourself laughing, serve the food, drink until unconscious. Done. |

Bbq's afford one the privilege of watching ones meat burn whilst not being able to a great deal about it, with the added benefit of breathing in a face full of smoke and smelling like grease and ketchup, innit....
....I for one wouldn't miss the opportunity of cleaning all that nasty burnt on shit/concrete off the grill afterwards, not to mention the cherished moments when the shit falls through the grill into the charcoal (10 second rule applies/feed it to the guest you hate most).....  |

Been Greek we love a BBQ especially our Greek Easter normally a couple of weeks after the UK Easter nothing better than lamb , pork or chicken shish kebabs.Most Sunday’s we have a gathering of family and friends and we tend to do a BBQ it’s how I was bought up so I see no need to change but I understand it’s not for everyone that’s fair enough as far as I am concerned

A BBQ imparts a different flavour to what you're cooking. The same way that boiling, frying, roasting, all imparts different flavours and textures.
We cook indoors, so a better question might be, why don't we BBQ inside?
The obvious answer is our houses aren't designed for it, smoke fire risk, etc.
It's because we can't BBQ inside, that a do it outside.
In any case, if it's so nice outside, why would you wish to be stuck inside cooking, when you can do it outside! |

I love BBQ food but the last one I went to I ended up getting my plate and moving inside. The insects were just too much of a problem
I had BBQ parties for my 17th and 21st birthdays though, both with plenty of very strong punch. Both were the best birthdays of my life so far |

Never noticed any , we burn a lot of incense and use a lot of lemon in cooking , tend to keep the kitchen and bbq areas clean and food covered, maybe good hygiene keeps them away ? |

We eat outside when possible..
Why..
Because being outside feels better than being inside to us.
Each to their own, but in a good 15 years of bbq cooking we're yet to get food poisoning, attacked by a fly with a baseball bat demanding our steak and we've not created a fireball that has been mistaken for a low level nuclear weapons test.

In SA trapping crayfish is illegal. We used to dive for them. Nothing like sticking your face under a rock to have a giant size moray say hello.
I'm allergic to crustaceans so I'd catch my quota and give them away.
We used to catch fish, gut them and fill the cavity with tomato, onion, garlic and lemon, wrap them in tinfoil. Freshly caught fish on the grill. Mmmmmmmm!!! |

The best food I've ever had on a BBQ was when my brother in law bought a smoker to fit over the top, we had smoked fish and green lipped mussels, that was great any thing else and I don't think it's better on a BBQ and trust me I have many South African friends so have tried them many times, not for me I'm afraid |

The secret is to cook on both wood and charcoal. Charcoal for a long even heat. Wood for the smoke. Different types of wood, give a different taste to the meat. |

I just love the idea of spontaneously cooking and eating outside. The food has a lovely chargrilled taste, sunshine, it's just quite blissful. I've done quite a few over the last few days, Ottoleghi aubergine and yoghurt salad with garlic chicken thighs....bliss. |

I don't like BBQs either, i have stopped going to them now unless it's my children doing them as i trust them to cook properly. Other times the food has been boring, bland, to hot, to cold, generally gross and all iv ate is the bread. Now i simply don't bother to go to them. |

Love using the BBQ....food cooked properly has taste and texture entirely different to oven or pan cooked..we use ours quite a lot even doing slow cooked or smoked meats...a nice bit of beef jerky or biltong is a wonderful snack to have a few days later with a nice cold beer...like most things in life it takes practice to learn to cook decent on a charcoal one...can't see the point of gas or electric ones...you definitely need the full smoke flavouring you can only get from charcoal.. |

What's so great about indoors anyway? I bought a house, specifically with a big garden. A BBQ is just one of the things I can do in it.
I am tempted sometimes to BBQ in the middle of winter, possibly after snow. I can keep warm cooking, people can eat in the house and it freaks out the neighbours. |

The rare time I get to experience one I get to be a gutsy and can seem to eat for England.... burger, sausage, kebab, steak, chicken, chop, prawns, jacket potato (cooked in the coals), add to that all the trimmings of vegetable kebabs, salad and finished off with toasted marshmallows and fruit kebabs |

"Because seasoned jerk chicken and pork needs the charcoal flavour, it's terrible cooked in the oven.
I think the same when I cook chicken tikka and homemade naan. They cook so much better on the bbq as well. "
Totally agree with chicken tikka, so much better barbecued. Now I was finishing the naan on the hob but I'm giving your method a go, makes total sense, now why didn't that cross my mind. |
