How on earth do you avoid getting sunburnt?

And before the PC Brigade start, I'm a strawberry blonde

P20 and a burkha is about the only thing works for me

Bucks

when can be arsed , which is usually after Sarah has moaned at me , put at least SF15 on and try not to spend too long in the sun (though the short walk from the garden, through the french windows, onwards to the kitchen, crack open another cold bevvie and retrase my steps counts as a 'decent' break)

Top tip

Go on the sun beds, do 3 mins every day for a week to build up a base tan then you dont burn

stay in the shade or slap on a gallon of factor 50, my brother and mother just go deeper shades of red in the sun. I burn aswell to be fair, and my hair seems to go back to being blonde.

Started school in Hong Kong, served in the Far East also many years in the Persian Gulf. Now holiday in Gran Canaria, Maspalomas beach.

Being en ex ginger (now white) I do tan. Be very cautious as you are more prone to skin cancer and Basal Cell Carcinoma's.

Not ginger, but am quite blonde with very light blue eyes (typical saxon), and go even more blonde in the sunlight. I find that the vitamin D suppliments I'm on help me go very brown and I no longer burn these days...

Simply apply liberal quantities of Factor Dracula Sun Block Lotion on all areas of skin remotely susceptible to exposure from anything brighter than unlit candles….!.

I thought it was expensive, but when you consider it's a once only application, it's quite reasonably priced

think urself lucky ur only ginger

i've had vitiligo since i was in my early 20's and no treatment has worked / reversed the symptoms - infact it has just gotten progressively worse

for those that don't know, it is a condition where patches of skin lack the pigment, so if you go out in the sun, only part of you will tan - the rest will remain white

the only treatment available to me is to wear cosmetic make up, which i refuse to do

so i am stuck with a dilemma

either avoid direct sunlight and remain pastey white forever

or go out in the sun and have people stare at me

i choose the former option

this weather kills me because i would love to go out in it, but live in fear of it becoming more obvious

ever considered a life where you know you can't go on a sun holiday ever again or if you do, expect people point & stare ?

so gingers, again, think yourselves bloody lucky

Turn left at the Singing Ringing Tree

"How on earth do you avoid getting sunburnt?"

You can recognise me standing on the sea shore watching the kids play in the water - I'm the one standing there in white long sleeved loose fitting cotton top with long white trousers and a bloody big sun hat, whilst everyone else is in their bikinis.

I use a suntan lotion by 'Simple' and it's SPF50 - works great, doesn't smell horrid and easy to apply.

Having had sun stroke once, I never ever want to experience that again.

I only have to look at a sunbed to break out in horrendous prickly heat I'd better stick to the layer of emulsion and the 2 man tent swathing my body
