Psoriatic Arthritis Help

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Hi ladies and gents, I have had psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for a number of years now. I had numerous sessions of UVA and UVB treatment which has helped the psoriasis somewhat but due to the arthritis side of things, I am going to have to go onto methotrexate on a small dose which is a chemo drug and will knock my immune system out which should help the arthritis and the psoriasis.

I have looked everywhere for something more natural that might help as I feel that it is a little bit evasive to be on a drug like that but just do not know where to start.

Does anyone else suffer or know someone who suffers with the same that could give me some pointers please

Many thanks

I really don't have any advice to help alleviate this for you..I wish that I did.

But, I hope you find something that really helps x

Have you looked into anti TNF infusion.

Not sure if its suitable for your type of arthritis but I know its used for some forms and helps the psoriasis.

Something else to look into, thank you. My dermatologist and consultant down here just tend to chuck you on methotrexate so if I can go with other items in hand, they can look into them once this virus has got a little better and they start treatment again xx

Yes that seems to be case and have experience of that drug too.

There are actually a lot of different anti TNF treatments available. Maybe have a look into in to it.

All the treatments are available on the NHS and its been a game changer.

Becareful of methotrexate and interstitial lung disease.

Obviously your specialist will monitor you regularly and they generally know best.

Look at alternatives for methotrexate and ask about those to see why they think this medication is best for you.

Also a sufferer here. Currently doing the light treatment at home which has really helped. Combined with a new steroid cream. X

Thank you to everyone, I will be writing down what you have all said. It is so nice to know that there are others who can understand how it feels. I am currently having to move house alone during a flare up. It took me 3 hours this morning and a dose of MST for the pain just to be able to get half a car filled xx
