Eeeeveing Ash and Jim and Lorna... Hope you're well, even if you're missing football...
What have I been doing? This morning, cycled to see a friend for a walk. Eight weeks ago, cycled up a hill where I had to stop four times on the way. Today, eight weeks and a couple of hundred kms later, cycled up without stopping.
This evening, felt a bit crazy for lack of kisses with my wife so went out cycling again for another two hours, climbed up the steepest hills I could find, waved to other cyclists, overtook a woman on a road bike, raced a woman on a road bike in the hills near Lane End, and belted down the long straight from Lane End to Marlow. Got back a bit tired and feeling calmer.
Phoned some friends and now listening to Freya Ridings singing Castles and talking to you... |

Evening all. An exciting day today. I drove a double digit number of miles to take my Dad to a hospital appointment, I sat in the hospital car park/garden bit and did a live session with students with my laptop on my knee, I ate pizza, I called at a colleague's house (well, driveway) on the way back for her to chuck a pack of lab report marking across her front garden, and all in time to be home for tea. The most exciting and varied day of the WFH/lockdown period to date |

My first time out since lockdown today as well. Went for a long walk through the beautiful Surrey hills. Saw a few pheasants, fed a straggly semi wild horse a humbug. Came home and made enchiladas. Now I’m drinking a San Miguel. The world is alright. |

Thank you Jim. The horse didn’t know what a humbug was I think. But he seemed to really enjoy it. When I left he stood staring at me forlornly. Maybe I’ll go back at the weekend and give it a apple. |

What, literally you haven't crossed the threshold of your house for eight weeks??
Talking of pheasants, I saw a light brown female pheasant at the roadside, just standing there, by a fence. I stopped. There was nothing coming on the road. I looked at it. It looked at me. I wondered if it was all right. I went a bit nearer... The bird took off and flew over the fence. |

My first time out since lockdown today as well.
The bird took off and flew over the fence."
I’ve been out to shops. But not out, out. If you see what I mean.
I picked some nettles as well I’m going to make nettle soup tomorrow. I also saw a wild plum tree, with the most vivid purple plums. One pheasant I saw was cavorting in some long grass. He stopped and stared at me as well. |

I know what you mean, Fruitloop. I've also been to the nearest shops and for a little tootle in the immediate vicinity, but today felt like I'd gone properly out. I was out most of the day, which helped! |

Glad to hear you had a nice day.
In the four or so hours I was out I saw three people walking and two cyclists
Everyone said hello, waved and smiled.
Definitely going to do this more often now.
Next week I might do the walk of the unknown sailor, around hindhead and the devils punch bowl. |

Oh this is the norm around these Northern parts, always has been. You always say hello to other walkers/people you pass. A young chap, maybe early 20s actually doffed his baseball cap at me last week, as I passed him on a country path in my wheelchair. It wasn't a flat cap, but the sort you see rappers wearing, but he raised it as he said hello. Was very surprised! |

Sounds like a nice young chap.
Most people in my experience either say hello when you’re out walking or at least nod. There are a few who ignore you. I’m not bothered though. I look a bit unapproachable and surly anyway. So I don’t blame them |

I think I just look odd
How often do you see a woman, mid 30s, in a sporty wheelchair, pushing over farm tracks and up gravelly country lanes?! People think I'm insane. Maybe I am? I got stuck in the mud a couple of times and stuck in potholes, but always managed to drag myself out! 9k by wheelchair over unpaved country lanes was fun |

Next objective is a 12k loop, just need a fine/dry weekend day (damned work in the week!). I'm no inspiration, just someone who can't accept that I "can't" do something |

Well that is devastating. I was hoping you’d say they lived happily ever after.
Like when you’re younger and your mum would fast forward the uncomfortable bits in Disney films. I was in my 20s when I found out Rufio died in Hook.
And don’t get me started on Snow White. Did you know the apple was poison?! |
