Listening to the sparrows squabbling and chatting..all close neighbours battling who gets what. The sun is warm but also cool enough to be just right..I have my book to hand on old folklore..today is a good day, my rest day..yesterday was so sheltered and hot I had to leave my cornish hedge building as nl matter how much I drank I just felt eugh in the heat. Previous day I d cleared a graveyard of scrub and hog had found its way inside my top so being photoreceptive it reacted to the sun as it burned my skin...now my chest looks scarred from the blisters. The jackdaws and crows have now turned up...so all is busy in the natural world..oblivious to me. Later I shall photo hawthorn blossom for my fans of plant lore..its traditionally a flower not borne within the household..seen as bad luck..the reason maybe its scent..some like, some dont..maybe because within the scent is the same chemical a dead and deteriorating human body emits. Tis going to be a hot day so I shall find shade..what about you people? Enjoy.  |

I’m going to have to google trees and plants now!
I’ve found the birds in our surrounding trees and bushes seem to be having a lovely time on our garden looking for worms and things to build nests with. We’ve had a regular Robin visit these past two weeks. We also have a family of wood pigeons nesting in the trees directly behind our home and i love their gentle cooing (except in the early morning!) i like sitting out in the sun and closing my eyes, hearing no traffic and just the sounds of nature, makes up for being able to get to the beach or walks in the forest.
Today will be a brief tidy of the garden and then i have an Assignment to finish. |

No sun here just a nasty east wind blowing some cool air across the field directly into my garden. "
Know hog well..its potency is increased by sunlight..I was fully covered up but obviously it found its way in..After last few days work I would welcome your weather... |

Dont tidy too much..leave some debris for the insects and birdies. Our songbirds are in decline because our insects are..one of the studies suggests its that our lands are becoming too tidy..leave a little natural debris around..you ll get more wildlife...enjoy..x |

"I didn't know hawthorn was bad luck, knew that having a Rowan tree in front of your house was good luck. I've always liked hawthorn blossom, like the tiny white flowers. "
It varies in region, culture and personal likings..the chemical is triethylamene..I love the hawthorn..the faery tree..very powerful tree amongst old culture. Its also a tree linked with female sexuality as it is the female scent that is given off..the All woman tree. |

Yes its an extremely potent tree and is part of Welsh folklore. I live and work the old ways..the woodland I manage is done through the old ways..oh and I lived in this wood isolated for two years and all I ll say is dont cast the tales of woodland spirits off lightly...they are present in one form or another.. im always up for a chat  |

Dont we all...lol...the three most powerful of the trees are Elder, ash and hawthorn. The elder is seen as the wisest of trees and it was seen as a great taboo to cut elder without giving something in return but it was beleved it should only be cut by those such as shamans, soothsayers etc. The ash is known in nordic legend as Yygdrasill..the sacred tree which defines the upper world of the gods in the canopy, starlight seen as the pricks of light from the gods through the divide of worlds. The middle world of trees of branches and leaves and shoots is the human world, our world as we know it and the roots are that of lower world..known by many as the underworld, land of the dead etc. Odin hung from Yygdrasill for 9 days in his " spiritual" quest. |

How philosophical but very appropriate at this point in time. Lockdown has allowed us all valuable time to stop and contemplate ours lives, work, family...... which in *normal* circumstances seem to pale into insignificance

Reading your post made me feel kind of peaceful, apart from your poor skin that’s not good  I’m currently laying in the bath listening to Radiohead High and Dry thinking I really need to listen to more of their stuff! |

Why thank you..I would like to think that the contemplation of these weeks will carry forward when things resume normality. I ve seen many posts about the birdlife being more prolific or the creatures themselves more numerous or the blossoms bursting due to the decrease in human activity..it hasn t, that change would come over a much longer time period..time to evolve and adapt..it is merely that people are taking more notice, more time and in many cases appreciating their allowed time far more. Often to aquire appreciation of something it must be taken away first. Enjoy your hot day x |

Elderflower as a non alcohol drink is beeeooootiful..as you drink you also get a hint of the scent of the flower. You can eat the flowers but beware eating the berries. One year as a kid myself and my mate ate a large amount..lets just say the stomach was not happy lol. An old way of eating the flowers was to heat a pan of butter to sizzling temperature where it would spit at you. They would then dip the flowers rapidly into the butter or batter. Enjoy your perusals. |
