Actually thinking about it I am not sure that would spell extinction. In such a situation I imagine everyone would follow sensible health guidelines and do everything they could to prevent the spread. They would, wouldnt they?  |

Anti-biotic resistant illness is looking like a potential winner from what I’ve read. The other possible option is something taking out the internet- economies, societies etc would crumble into civil war and insanity in less than a week |

My guess would be in a similar way the dinosaurs were wiped out.
Huge meteor crashing into the earth destroying virtually all living things.

Has anyone watched that programme on Discovery or History channel, can't remember which but was called life after people, or something like that. It showed what would happen after different extinction scenarios, was very interesting in way nature takes over again. |

It would have to be a global event. In the same way the dinosaurs became extinct, the Earth will be hit by an asteroid which will change habitable conditions everywhere. I don't think we need worry just yet though

Pollution (plastic & chemical) & depleted food sources are already happening (Africa has is being plagued with locusts right now), land loss is already happening (village in Wales decommissioned due to rising sea levels), fresh water are polluted and diminishing due to ice melts being less every year, rising temperatures making places unlivable for humans.
We are in the start of it now, what we'll see from this in years to come is famine, droughts, wars and the failure of safety around nuclear sites causing wipe out over already depleted land sources, a slow decline. |

I think there are four major threats that have the potential to wipe out the human race or at least bring about dystopia.
1 Nuclear disaster or warfare
2. Global Heating accelerating
3. Biotechnological disaster or warfare
4. Artificial intelligence disaster
Pandemics are unlikely to wipe us out unless it is linked to 3.
