A new film on YouTube, produced by Michael Moore.

It's one of those films that makes you think that perhaps covid 19 may actually be a good thing for the planet. People are the worst

I haven’t seen it, but I hear it’s rattled a number of Environmentalists. Which is surprising as I always though Moore was “on their side”.

Is there a brief synopsis?

Basically that a most of the "enviromentalists" that are trying to move us away from fossil are in the pockets of big business of the likes of the petroleum industry and investors like Goldman Sachs. People like Al Gore who who wants us to move away from fossil fuels in favour of biomass, specifically sugar cane. What a surprise he is a major investor. It's all about profits.

There is much more to it though so I recommend you watch it.

We use GS to purchase companies and right now we are doing more for COVID-19 than some governments.

That’s very true, in crisis you often see the best of people and companies , been lucky to work for a great global company through both COVID-19 and the Tsunami and got involved in the solutions.

Sickened at how people touted the whole carbon neutral bit but were actually using as much fossil fuels to make their carbon neutral plant and continuing to use them to start the fucker in the mornings. Wild

It's an interesting film, but it's really only telling us what we all know; and that is technology in the search for green energy etc cannot fix the basic problem of humans as a species, and that is we don't control population growth.

We have no long term hope while population numbers dramatically expand year after year. Sadly as a species we're not prepared to face this fact yet.

I think socialism has some admirable qualities, but when it’s bad communism is just as bad as unchecked capitalism. Capitalism has given us better health, education, housing, fewer wars than ever in history. Every communist experiment to date has failed with disastrous consequences

The type of capitalism we need to watch is the US libertarian type that is pursued by the hard brexiteers, have you read The sovereign Individual by Jacob Reece Moggs father ? It shows where that leads to and explains why so much money was put behind Brexit by the rich.

You are right of course GC, however there is one big fundamental difference. The worlds population has exploded within the past 100 years, way beyond the planets actual capacity and it's all because of petroleum. When that's gone we are well and truely fucked!

Cuba is a country I have water to visit for a long time and hope to soon before it changes too much. I’m not an expert on these things, I know they have great healthcare though and our own NHS has looked to it for good practice. Opponents will tell you about the lack markets in Cuba, the poor conditions and corruption of the elite the things we don’t see but I would expect also the lack of opportunities and innovation , a system that prevents people having aspirations and dreams maybe for the sake of stability - like a utilitarian approach , it’s not someone I believe is good for the spirit or humanity in general !!

Problem with humans is that it takes being hit in the face with a mighty shovel before he stops and thinks. Oppenheimer with the atomic bomb..creates it, watches it then utters the word " DOH" hyperthetically obviously..but too bloody late..it has changed the future...then we think hell yeah..it ll make a great fuel source, lets do it...DOH, 3 mile island, Chernobyl and Japan and still we pursue it without any true emergency plan to hand.

We are not the master species we believe ourselves to be..we are just another species..only problem is we lack respect for other species.

May watch it today but I may get tetchy.

We are not the master species we believe ourselves to be..we are just another species..only problem is we lack respect for other species.

May watch it today but I may get tetchy. "

For a few maybe but the vast majority wouldnt lift a finger. It's not just that but we have the arrogance to think that the planet is ours to exploit.

"Problem with humans is that it takes being hit in the face with a mighty shovel before he stops and thinks.

I agree..we think we can take without giving but one day....

Crazy thing is how vulnerable we are. Look at how modern society is so reliant on something as minor as wifi etc and electricity..imagine if we lost either..I d be fine but everything would come to a standstill. Or takeaway fuel as we know it. The government had all the heads of government, emergency services, business and finance put together a paper on what if the power grid went down. A mate was on the committee as a member of the atomic decommissioning department. The final report was civil war after only a week or so, the final straw being the government seizing all fuel. The police said looting and crime would rapidly rise calling for a curfew in three days. All hypothetical but...

Its shocking to think how dependant we are on fossil fuels, specifically petroleum. The only reason the world population is as high as it is is due to fertiliser derived from gas and oil. When that's gone we will be fucked!

Worthing

I think if covid19 had happened 20-30 years ago, society would have broken down completely...we literally would have become feral. It's modern tech that's enabled us to keep the lights on. We got lucky...for now.

And what happened to the Cree? Pushed into a tiny reserve I'm guessing, if they weren't wiped out entirely.
