The reason doctors and nurses wear them (i believe) is to stop saliva going into open wounds.
Theyre not air tight so won't stop airbourne virus

And also they wear a form fitting, and more resistant material than those you see out and about
Ordinary masks, let alone home made, are only beneficial for those exhibiting symptoms.
They don't prevent transmission, but might catch and hold some of the material that might be expelled.

There's a big difference between how health care professionals use them and how people wandering round the shops are!
I've spent the best part of 5 weeks trying to source PPE for our staff and it's becooming stupidly expensive, hard to get or taking too long because Joe public thinks he needs them all |
