Umm, an unpopular opinion but I think its bollocks. Works by the placebo effect.

I've had acupuncture for two separate issues.

Both times I found the experience really relaxing and calming but I believe that's because I have 4 kids and I appreciated the peace and quiet. Not because I was having pins stuck in me!

That said I would have it again.

A musculoskeletal consultant and a physio gave me acupuncture and although it made me very drowsy it did nothing for my pain. Mr N had it at physio and it really helped.

I think it's one of those things that only works in some people or some problems

...by your own admission then it works??? Who cares how?

By the way, it’s been around for maybe 1000 years, As it’s only been around 100 odd years, let’s see where western medicine is in that time frame eh?

I have back problems including a lot of tension in the muscles of my lower back. The chiropractor does acupuncture to release the tension this really works well for me. I feel the tension being released and there is no pain from the needles being inserted. He is trained and qualified, make sure your practitioner is too.

It's worth looking at any gold standard research studies that have been published in credible journals. I'm aware of some past research, I can’t remember the actual health problem studied, where there appeared to be some measurable benefits.
