Camomile tea is often soothing. Plus a couple of dry Jacob's cream crackers to give your stomach something to work on apart from itself!

It depends what's caused the upset stomach - if it's an infection, then it needs food to feed it, so it has to be starved.

Thus any drink that contains food of any kind will defeat the objective of starving it. So, only really water can achieve rehydrating your body, without feeding the infectious agents in your system. Coke etc, or anything with caffeine, could result in a diuretic effect, dehydrating you further potentially.

If there's no infection, then you can drink other fluids, but I'd err on the side of caution, and only have very mild concoctions, that won't inflame, irritate etc.

Quinine water contains no more than 83 mg (0.083 g) quinine per liter, The therapeutic dose is 8-20 mg/kg. The toxic dose is not clearly defined, but may be as little as 2 grams for an adult, probably closer to 8. You'd have to drink a lot of tonic water to ingest even 2 grams, but allergic response is possible.

Clarissa Dickson Wright (1 half of the 2 Fat Ladies) was an alcoholic for a long time....her autobiography is a fascinating read and she had various ailments due to the amount of G&T she drank over a long period of time....here's a quote from her Desert Island Discs interview....

Yes, it's the most bizarre thing. When I was in my treatment centre they took a blood test and discovered that I had very sticky blood, you see. So they sent me off to see the specialist to find out what was wrong with me at St. Mary's, Paddington, and the metabolist said "have you ever lived in the malaria belt?" (SL laughs) So I said "no, why?" and he said "this is a condition usually found in people who have taken a lot of malaria tablets". And the penny dropped and I said "Quinine!" and he said "well, yes" and I said "well how about tonic water?" and he said in this rather pompous way that consultants have, "my dear young lady, you would have to drink a very great deal of tonic for over a very long period of time in order to get this condition", and I said "well how about six pints a day for twelve years?", and he said "well yeah, that would do it".

boil rice, set the water aside and when the starch has gone to the bottom pour off the top water and drink the starch. Works wonders in about ten minutes.

If you want to rehydrate put a half spoon of sugar in it and a week pinch of salt.
