North of The Wall - youll need your vest

Workers have accepted significant changes to their working conditions, a pay freeze for a couple of years, and changes in pensions and contracts for new starters.....and subsequently they have won a major new contract which will secure jobs for a good few years.

A wise decision to help boost manufacturing, or manipulation of the workers?

It's called negotiating. Both sides have to give a bit and concede a bit

If I was employed there I'd call it relief

Newcastle and Gateshead

well since the other option was the intention to close the factory full stop... then I suppose a job is better than no job at all...

but then it is also a realisation that people have a fairly good standard of living doing what they do......

it wouldn't work for everyone, I am at the lower end of civil service pay.. and we have had a pay freeze for the last 3 years.. hence the decision to strike and it isn't one I take lightly....

this is good news for our firm as we make the parts for their power steering

and the contract was due to end in 2013 it`s now been extended to 2017
