With the lockdown they reckon that there is more time for home cooking, using leftovers for delicious new meals and houses have never been so clean. Is this the rebirth of the trad wife ?

No. I do think it might make some people evaluate what they do and how they do it but it won’t be gender specific

I've always done all the cooking and cleaning in the family home, I also do all the repairs, pay all the bills, keep the cars legal and on the road, walk the creatures and sort the holidays.

Having now listed all that I now want a divorce.

Surely women are free to be who or what they want to be ?

If that’s being a traditional wife and it makes her happy what’s wrong with that ?

I’m not saying that all women should be one but there are some who are happier in that roll.

Just like some love to be submissive and some don’t

We both pitch in .

There are some roles I take on and some Ash does. They are not devided into male or female jobs, we just do what we each better at doing.

Some women will find they enjoy sending more time in the home but so will some men.

Not sure what the first bit has to do with the second.

In most households both work. Uf both are now home, should still be sharing the household chores / cooking. If one is home I would expect them to be doing more, whether that person is male or female.

I should add, that I bloody well hope not.

Whilst I have no problem with any woman wanting a traditional housewife role, it should not expected.

Women in the workplace and especially in senior roles, are very good for society as a rule.

What she said

My ex and I used to play fight over cooking

What’s wrong with being a trad wife? Some make it sound so bad!

I would have thought that women can choose their own role. Their life, their choice.

There's nothing wrong, if that's the choice of the lady. It's wrong that it's assumed that all women want to be traditional housewives though. I don't think anyone has dissed it as a choice, but they have as an expectation.

I'm all for people doing what they want to do, not because it's expected of them/forced upon them by others.

People can live as they choose. That's entirely in line with feminism.

The tradwife movement has unfortunate political associations, however, and at least a subset believe it's how it must be for everyone.

You have your choice, I have mine.

Plus, when I bake I do it because I want to bake, not because I'm subservient to a man.

couple, us we him her.

Oh Tom you do like to shit stir don't you?

However

What I would say is this.

I am certain that there's hundreds of thousands of not millions getting re acquainted with a different possibly forgotten way of life that perhaps only our grandparents can relate to.

Such as cooking more wholesome meals.

Baking.

Sitting down and eating as a family.

Some people are probably spending time with family and kid's in a way that they never would have been able to before.

Guys doing jobs that they would usually pay someone to do.

And maybe yes women becoming a housewife again but also many men equally becoming househusbands so lots of equality there.

And here's the thing some people might actually say, you know what I actually enjoy a more" traditional" way of living but maybe with a modern twist.

We can all become more traditional regardless of gender.
