I am surprised it hasn't yet as they are taxing all they can the government must realise they are missing out in this area.

Nope, the majority of prostitutes are doing it to feed their drug habits!

Ergo, money from prostitution goes hand in hand with drugs!!

Its a crime and should stay a crime!!

"prosttitution is legal, soliciting for business isnt"

agreed, it is already legal.

if you asked someone to have sex with you for money, its perfectly fine, as its a financial transaction, however, someone offers you sex for money, thats illegal.

much the same with taxi's (wait for it, it makes sense)

you offer someone money for taking you somewhere, legal.

someone says they will take you somewhere, for money, unles they are a registered taxi, illegal.

its all in the way it is done.

but, i agree, we should have legalised and properly run brothels, wherein the girls are safe, and constantly health and drug tested.

Dont agree, maybe some street walkers are on drugs and give a bj for a fiver but theres are many, many forms of prostitution, many girls work thro an agancy, many are high class and change £1000+ a night, some women who do escort work have very good job and just do it as a way of making easy money on top, you cant class everyone as the same and believe me noone whos working for an agancy or changing that amount of money are addicts

I didn't say ALL prostitutes, i said the MAJORITY!! I think you will find that the street girls FAR outweigh the so called weekend call girls and high class hookers!! What about the thousands brought over from abroad to serve in the sex trade?

Prostitution goes hand in hand with drugs and other major crimes like kidnap, extortion, fraud and murder! That is a FACT!!

It should be legalised as it would then be licensed and the links to drugs cut considerably. As anywhere with girls working would be forced to show they were not drug taking etc.

But it is worth noting that its not illegal to be an escort etc.

It is also a means by which many homeless women survive, tho some of them are also into drugs there may not be a correlation for a variety of reasons. but a large number are also forced into it through thier extreme vulnerability and threats of violence.

still dont agree

Tho im not saying there arnt hookers who are on drugs i think now days you will find they are not the majority, i think you will find that now days with the internet being so openly avalible most use site such as adult work or work for agancys, go down you local right light disctrct they are nowhere near as busy as they was 20 years ago because street walking, tho far from dead is a dying trade

As for women bough into this country and forced into selling sex i dont actually class them as prostitutes, thats sexual abuse and legal or not you will never stop that

I think the main thing is legalising prostitution would make the women safer, as they wouldnt have to hide away with men they dont know, they could meet in a safe place there for reducing the chances of getting attacked

And by prostitutes i mean women who do it thro their own choice, because anyone whos forced into it isnt a prostitute and as i stated above you will never stop abuse legal or other wise

I see what your saying, but, if its legalised, how does that help those who are forced into it thru drugs or violence??

They will still be on the streets, moving it to brothels will just make the more vulnerable ones even myre of an outcast!

Imagine it, the punters start gning to the LEGAL brothels, so, the gals forced into it have to start charging less and less just to get some trade! And the guys forcing them bring in even more gals to keep up their cash flow!

But the question is about legalising prostitution

Women who are forced into it thro violence arnt prostitutes, its rape/sexual abuse, and thats a totally different subject

sex is legal but sexual abuse still happens and the same will be if they legalise prostitutuion because there will always be abusers

So, the gals down my way on street corners aren't prostitutes? They'r just future rape victims who charge for that pleasure are they?? ANY gal who takes cash for sex is a PROSTITUTE by definition of law!!

It will just end up supply and demand! People will end up going where its cheaper! I.E. The ones FORCED into it! They may be co-erced but, they are still classed as prostitutes until its proven they are victims of the sex trade!!

Legalising it wont help the victims of sex abuse, just send it deeper underground where it will be harder to help them!!

It would make is safer.. as things stand at the moment, two women can not work from the same place... as that is then a brothal but there is safety in numbers.

well firstly, most of it.

you have a rant at NN for not reading your entire post, yet this was the post she was referring, you said NOTHING about being brought into the country and people trafficed for sex, as has been said, thats abuse and nothing to do with drugs.

you would ACTUALLY find that most women that are trafficed to be used in the sex industry are NOT walking the streets, but are already working in illegal brothels, as the people that brought them in cant risk the police picking them up when they do their street sweeping.

you can drive through a red llight district and you can se which are scagheads and arent, and, tbh, the one i used to drive through from work to home, the vast majoirty of the women were the 'extra money' brigade.

hell, there used to be girls out in nightclubbing gear, 'earning' their money on the saturday evening, to go into wolves centre for the night.

tend to find, its the ones out very late at night, that are the druggie ones.

dude, no one has said your opinion is any less valid than anybody elses.

you are the one jumping down peoples throats.

the fact is, it SHOULD be made legal.

it SHOULD be run from brothels.

the girls should be drug and health checked regularly.

it has worked in countries with bigger problems than ours.

with the financial crisis as it is you may well see many more normal wives and girlfriends on the game.

Believe it or not, there is a well known trade union in the UK that working girls can join. It gives them access to legal advice on all sorts of issues, and not those concerning being arrested for any illegal activities. It also gives them a voice to express their ideas and opinions to the government.

Prostitution should be legalised, as they do in New Zealand. All those that work in the sex industry (and we are including the males as well as females), are tested regularly. If an STI showed up, then their licence is revoked until such time as they get the all clear, and all clients have to be contacted. It's made the whole industry more health conscious and it's made those in the industry safer.

The problem with criminalising prostitution is that it does drive things underground and then it becomes tied into drugs and other criminal activities. It means that girls will be trafficked and given drug habits to keep them in the trade. By making it legal, hopefully it would reduce the numbers dramatically. Sex sells, fact. Criminals will make money out of most things they think will earn them lots for little effort. Seeing as prostitution is the oldest profession in the world, you would think someone would try something different by now rather than what they have been doing for years - which is to punish the working girls and ignoring the clients.

"Should prostitution be made legal....

Yes, if they are doing it on your street,

NO, if they are doing it on my street."

If I remember rightly, in Amsterdam they have trialled having areas set up that streetwalkers can take their clients to, as usually the business transaction is carried out in cars.

Streetwalkers are only the tip of the iceberg with regards to prostitution, and I think you would be surprised as to what happens behind people's front doors in your street- just like swingers doing their own thing behind their front doors.

Just because someone decides to work in the sex industry, they are stereotypically defined as having a drug habit to fund or are being forced into it by criminals. A sex worker is typified as someone who wears short skirts, has all her bits showing and goes with anything that has a pulse just to get the cash.

However there are some very intelligent women who have chosen this career path. They are well dressed, well spoken and well educated. It is a fact that some women feel they have no choice but to become a sex worker due to financial circumstances and having no where else to go for instant cash, but others decide to start because what they can earn in an hour would take them a week on minimum wage to make.

Society will always have prudish attitudes towards sex, be it paid for or given free. But this 'problem' has been around for centuries and surely it must be time to try legalising it.

Whether it's leagalised or not there will always be a rather large dollop of stigma attached to women who rent out their pussies for sex (let's say it like it is, they're not selling their bodies are they - they're renting out their pussies for half an hour a time), and even if it was made 100% legal and these girls paid tax, N.I. etc and made enough money to get themselves a nice four-bed detached house on a quiet leafy estate, their neighbours would still look down their noses at them and cross the street with their 2.4 children whenever they saw them approaching.

It's always been a case of "ok, it goes on, but not in my world and not with my daughter/mum/sister/wife", and I can't see those attitudes changing.

Trafficking humans for exploitation is a crime whether it's for sex or for slave labour. Legalising prostitution will take one of those 'trades' away from the traffickers. Punters who pay for sex with trafficked women can now be charged with rape as the women are being forced into having sex against their will.

The flip side of the coin is that legalising prostitution will decriminalise the women doing it, but it will then recriminalise them for tax evasion as I doubt many of them will declare their true earnings.

I think is also a matter of the British or maybe English attitude.

I have visited Amsterdam (with hubby) and looked round the red light area, also lived in Germany earlier in my life, the continentals have a different attitude to all this, take it in their stride. Here its all seedy back street stuff, have not been round soho for some years but as I remember it then its all very downmarket, seedy to the extreme, plastic raincoat brigade, girls on the corners with scabs on thier faces, perhaps they were ok but looked a strong chance to me of catching something off them, people with furtive looks on their faces, barkers trying to get you into clubs so you can be ripped of for a £100 pound glass of (or maybe real ).

Our sex scene is an Ann Summers shop with dildo's in the windows, back street clubs, seedy girls and nasty violent club barkers.

We just cannot seem to manage the sex situation like our continental cousins do and thats what we need to get right.

yes it should.

i do not blame any woman who wants to use her looks to earn a lot of money.

if she is sensible and stays away from all the trappings she can be very successful and retire well before most.

so why shouldnt she charge for her time and pleasure.

better than being in a job on poor pay for an ungrateful boss.

i dont blame woman at all for taking advantage of mens greed.

Having sex for money is a crime? Not exactly. There is a great family guy cut away where these guys get busted by detectives in a hotel room with a hooker, they explain they are paying her but they are also filming it, so thats ok because its porn. The detectives bid them a good day and leave!

So porn producers worldwide, including british producers such as Ben Dover are paying women to have sex. The women might also be drug users, who knows? Are you telling me that you have never contributed to the demand for pornography, ergo the need for a woman to have sex for money?

i do love it when this "topic" comes up

i personally think it should only be leagal for 2 girls and a maid to work at anyone time from 1 flat/house per day . this will make it harder for pimps to make big money and will allow the girls to make more .

personally i Hate pimps or anyone taking cash from girls working and think there Scum , but if a girl has to rent a room to work that has to be as long as they make more than the person there renting from

as for prostitution going hand in hand with drug use , in this day and age that is a very outdated view point .

many working girls do it to get thro uni or to support a family .

yes a few do it coz they have a drug habbit but you need to deal with the drug habbit and not the way they are supporting it

Yes, that must be so but all 5 prostitutes murdered in Norwich, 2006 by S Wright were drug addicts and reported to be carrying out the trade for money to support their 'habit'. That just cannot be coincidence so how much does Norwich, a small provincial city in England reflect what goes on in most other cities, quite a lot I would have thought.
