Right I KNOW Argos kind of stuff isn’t essential considering what’s going on but my grey roots are so bad at the moment and I busing toot touch up spray which is transferring to my pillows and getting on my clothes cos I’m using so much. I’m gonna have to stick a box dye on to cover it.

Tempted to go jet black which is my natural hair colour but I’ll have to keep that up every two weeks. Don’t know if my hair will take a light brown.

Who else is having to go down the DIY route?

Yea for the box dye option. I saw a post on FB from my hairdresser saying not to be tempted to put 1 in but at this rate, its gonna happen.

My sis has vid conference calls every day still so I completely understand her need to do it. Me not so much as I am not working at the moment. But still.....cant let the side down!

And I am lucky in that I had laser hair removal done on the legs, bikini and other places last year so home waxing is not needed.

Apart from that, I am maintenance free

Don't buy an Omelette maker. Quicker & easier to make your own. Taste nicer too

If your hair is naturally very dark I'd suggest a true semi permanent colour which will help cover your roots and you can also add it to your conditioner to keep your colour refreshed every time you wash your hair.

I was on box dye, I'm letting it grow out because fuck it.

I'm tweezing my brows.

I'm letting my hair grow because I'm not repeating my last DIY haircut circa 1995 which my mother had to fix.

Otherwise my beauty routine is pretty normal.

My lashes have all but a couple fallen out. I’ll have to get a full set again now instead of infills!

Hair, lashes, nails, all that stuff is irrelevant compared to my skin. I’ve had to stop taking my meds cos I had a letter saying I was high risk if I’m on them as they’re an immunity suppressant, now my psoriasis is gonna come back with a vengeance!!

Tried that child’s farm stuff ages ago when it was all over social media. Didn’t do nothing. The only thing that completely clears it for me is biologics, but I’m not taking medication that takes away my immunity just for the sake of my skin, like if I was taking it for actual health reasons I wouldn’t stop it but if it’s a choice between shit skin for a few months and getting that virus, I’ll take the shit skin.

I’d use a semi permanent. A permanent box dye is a right fucker. I mean if you have to re colour regularly anyway because of roots then a semi permanent would be better and kinder to the condition.

I’m growing out my grey and have been for over a year now and i’m originally very dark too. I had used a reddish Henna for years and that is a nightmare to get out. You just have to grow it out. I up-do it a lot into a messy bun, it hides the ends and hopefully my next trim will see the last of the Henna gone.

The other reason for letting my grey grow at the moment is because I suspect the box dye makes my hair more porous, which makes the curly girl method harder.

I had red baleyage (sp?) Done just before lockdown so happy with my hair. But for semi permanent solution I recommend casting creme gloss by loreal.

Missing my eyebrows and eyelashes tint but nothing make up wont fix if I feel like doing one. Ordered a new bright colour palette too. That is thanks to Swing inspiring me on her beauty thread

Have made homemade scrub too.

Using oils in hair and on body as usual. Thinking of getting a lamp and doing gel nails myself but my precision is crap. All well .. practice makes a master. Other than that luckily I can sort myself out with most of things. Including shaving/Using home ipl.

When I started getting greys few years ago, I started going to the salon to get done every 6 weeks. I'd never had dyed hair previous to that so didn't have a clue what to do. But after going to salon for few months I realised I'm paying so much moolah for something I can do myself at home. Box dye was a game changer for me. It it straight forward for me as my hair is black and I just touch up grey roots. I reckon you should go back to natural can't go far wrong with that

My hair dresser sold me the products to do my roots at home. Lifesaver! Maybe if you have a good relationship with yours, see if they'd order online and send to you.

Failing that, try ordering a box dye x

I have also always coloured my own hair.

The couple of times I have paid recently, I thought that I do better job myself. Most High Street hair salons don't have experience in non natural hair colour.

Whatever colour you decide on, as long as you follow the instructions, you should be fine.

My hair stays its natural colour which is a faint gingery brown with touches of grey so apart from it getting longer the delay in hairdresser visits doesn't matter. It just gets curlier.

About 8 years ago i had it coloured for a year but i didnt like not having my natural colour so stopped that.

I usually have my eyebows waxed and eye lashes tinted every 5 to 6 weeks but it's no big deal not getting that done for a while.

I'm doing the DIY touch up but, my fringe needs cutting and I am not very good at cutting it straight. I go to the Hairdressers every 4 weeks religiously for a colour and cut and I'm overdue and having to make do is shit.

I'm using Clairol root touch up for now. It'll have to do! It's a good product and not expensive.

I got my hair cut shortly before lockdown and rarely get it cut anyway.

To be honest, I am very low maintenance, so it won't affect me at all.

I have natural nails, dye my own hair, have a basic skin care routine that works and do my own eyebrows.

Other than that, I will just shave underarms and legs as and when I feel like it.

Though I will treat hubby by dressing up and wearing makeup every so often

I’m quite excited to see what my relaxed Afro will come out like by the end of this... obviously dependant how long we are in it in for. It tends to just grow straight out... curly... mainly from the sides - like a mane of pubes. I had considered giving myself a buzz cut with my pube trimmers, but I have seen myself with a crew cut once and it’d be desperation to get back there again.

Considering not touching the beard too... although it’s itching.

Ugh the week before lockdown I decided to strip the red out of my hair and switch it up to rose gold. Sixteen years of red hair dye Vs two bleach strips and my hair is in the worst condition its ever been, from snapping off to being ridiculously porous. I've rose gold roots and ginger everything else. Olaplexing like a bitch and argan oiling daily. I've got box dye waiting to slap on but daren't right now.

Only other beauty regimen to fall by the wayside is the waxing, but I'm sure it'll do my delicate bits good not to get traumatised with hot wax every three weeks!

I'm pretty lucky as I'm qualified in hair and waxing so have all the tools at home. Not that I've bothered with anything so far.

I've been at home for 3 weeks now and I've rather enjoyed being makeup free and letting my hair dry naturally for once.

Like a few people have mentioned above, a semi permanent colour will tide you over. I think I'm going to do a pink/peach root fade on mine tomorrow. Should wash out over a few weeks. Perfect time to experiment really.

The most maintenance I've done is soak my acrylic nails off and my Shellac on my toes. Bloody well took forever (I usually get it done in salon).

I have noticed my ordinarily very oily skin has become very very dry (hair, scalp, body). Really not sure why?

Olaplex is fab! I use the blag Osmo version with every colour or bleach treatment. I feel your pain. My hair isn't in the greatest condition after stripping it from Steel grey and going pastel pink again. My hair is surely glad of the break x

Thank you- I never usually wear anything on my head so hadn’t thought about a hair scarf, this will solve a lot of my problems

I’ll touch up my pink dye at home, which I do inbetween salon visits anyway. But I’m not touching my roots or cutting. IMO it’s not worth doing anything that could damage it.

Oh and using a hair mask and trying to wash and style as little as possible to avoid damage and split ends, with not getting it trimmed regularly.

Hillside desolate

I just got mine cut and dyed before everything shut so I'll be OK for a few weeks yet. Dreading having to try and do it myself though!

You could not pay me to trim my fringe. My mother still refers to The Incident with the Scissors from 25 odd years ago.

I wouldn’t recommend cutting your own fringe. There’s been a lot of tears today I look like Lewis Capaldi in a toupee

My hair was in awful condition due to it being stripped and constantly bleached..Started giving myself a trim other day and realised it was pointless as my hair was snapping all over the place...Grabbed a shaver and shaved it all off ...Never using bleach on my hair again ...On the plus side I’m rocking a short hair cut ..x
