When you were little, how many of you did the buttercup experiment, to see if you liked butter? I definitely did, but here’s the sad part, apparently my sister liked butter, but she doesn’t! It wasn’t scientifically accurate
What other old wives tales can you remember doing, that proved accurate, or false, for you?

"Pencils under the bust. Forget whether I passed or failed"
No point with mine tbh, but I remember that one too x Do you think there’ll be women trying this again now? Haha- if there are, results please! x |

"Eating crusts will make your hair grow curly and carrots will make you see in the dark.
I'm a straight haired speccy four eyes "
I never ate/eat crusts and have curly hair, and I’ve never been able to see in the dark even though I love carrots.
I think that many of these old wives tales should have been taken to task under the trades description act. We’ve been conned for years! xx |

Sitting too close to the tv would make your eyes go square
If you poked your tongue out and the wind changed you’d stay that way
If you lied your tongue would turn black but only your mum could see it
Christ, no wonder I need therapy |

“If the wind changes your face will stay like that” normally said to be when I was a stroppy teenager.
Well, the wing changed and I ain’t stroppy faced now, so must have been a load of old shite |

There and to the left a bit |
"If you swallowed the pips in fruit a tree would grow inside you
So far no branches have sprouted out of my nostrils and ears as a result of doing so...only hairs
That’s the tree roots "
Oh gawd...anyone know any good tree surgeons? |

Which reminds me of another
Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses...
...I'm personally quite partial to bespectacled ladies |

My mum used to tell my little brother that his “winky would fall off” if he kept touching it.
So let this be a warning to all the wankers out there- not only will you go blind, but it will fall off!! xx |

If you lie, your eyes change colour.
Potatoes will grow in your ears if you don't wash behind them.
Ice cream vans play music to tell you they've run out of ice cream. |

"Cows lie down when it’s going to rain. Used to confuse me if there were some still standing, like they were indecisive xx"
We still use the cows as a marker for rain. Done still standing means it’s changeable... it could look like rain but not rain haha |

Opening an umbrella indoors or putting new shoes on the table was bad luck in our house... it got extended to nothing new on the table |
