Why is there such a national panic, and media outlets putting the fear of god into people, when influenza has killed thousands of people year on year, and no one bats an eyelid???
I'm not saying we should not take it seriously, but cancelling flights, talking about postponing sporting events, self isolation, and having a financial/social impact on people??? WTF??? |

I think the concern is that of this were to infect the same number of people as influenza, there would be a hell of a lot more deaths than from the flu. And if the outbreak really gets going, the fact there is no immunity means that the spread would be a lot worse than the number of people getting the flu.
It's a case of prepare for the worst and hope for the best, which seems like a reasonable public health approach |

Well said I’m sick to the back teeth of it all 650,000 people die of the flue world wide every year but no one panics over that |

Maybe its a cunning plot by the bungling BoJo to take peoples minds off of Brexit and his constant lies!!! No his spin machine is working overtime to come up with a new idea to keep people in a panic. Was in my local Asda and people were panic buying water, Loo rolls. |

Yes, and is the same number of people catch this disease as catch the flu, around 10 million people will die directly from the virus.
With the far higher rates of hospitalisation which come with this new virus, Medical services would come to a screeching halt and expect further deaths from other conditions by a service unable to cope with the load.
So like I say, prepare for the worst and hope for the best, and try not to be a knob and disregard basic hygiene and sensible precautions if you start to feel ill |

Because if everyone got it at once the health system would basically break down....look what happens when there is a flu outbreak.
The best they are hoping for is a longer flatter peak because unlike China we can't build a flat pack hospital in a couple of days..... |

It must be the air we breathe in Dorset has common sense in it. I am a healthy male right age group and have no real reason to personally fear this virus. But i will respect it for the benefit of others around me. |
