Extol the virtues of your side of the River.
I am a north of the great River woman. I cannot imagine ever wanting to move to the other side but it's fine for a short visit every once in a while.
I've got the City just down the road, the best bits of the West End and we have road signs on the north side. |

I always find this argument intrguing. In every country & major city there is a north south divide. I'm Irish born and bread in Northern Ireland. When I moved to London my criteria was simple north of the river. For what reason I've no clue! I just liked the thought of North London more. Then there is the North South England divide. Having lived in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham I can tell you that the divide is Northern driven. I must visit South London sometime. Do they have web feet? |

I haven't checked their feet.
I agree that the UK North/South divide is driven by the North.
There was a thread in the Lounge about London taking everything. It makes me want to argue that London should declare nation state status. |

that my face when I need to go south. It's just weird. No real tube network. Old trains. Ppl just looking wrong. House prices that are still affordable (Abbey wood)
Being called a darkie
I just hate south. Even the men have no manners.
Am I the only one who feels dirty when in South? |

I don't feel dirty but a lot of it doesn't feel like the great City that is London.

Not Londoner myself, just placed here by the football club that got us here ... North seems a little rough to me .. but to be honest, I don't know Inner London at all - rarely go into the city as usually working. |

I'm from the Republic of Ireland and been in West London for 20 years and all I can say that I live the south side of London and it's open spaces and polite people but when I go across the river I find the people rude and to pricey for everything! But London ladies are sexy as hell |

NI contact me after your birthday
I'm used to racist terms. They amount of times at work, I have had to pull older people into my office and inform them that I am not coloured.
I can forgive people of a certain age but the young ones get a nice warning email from HR.
I use BBBW on my profile to let people know that I'm black because I don't have a profile pic.
That is all!!!

" I had actually written that my Granny uses the D term. She's 90! She knows no better. I've a mate of Jamaican/Irish decent. Mums Irish (and white shocker lol). He has been called the D worded by my granny but he laughed it off. Same as you it's an age thing you "let slide".. But racism is horrible it's truly my pet hate. I am in London 4 weeks and already I've pulled one lady of racist term. It's just wrong! Now don't you go calling me Paddy or I'll be offended! And come stroke of 12 noon I'll be mailing you! |

North London is so alien to me, it's like a different culture up there. So much so that sometimes I can tell when someone was raised North of the river just by their attitude and the way they speak. |

North London born and now live in N11. Though I did spend much of my youth just outside in Herts. Come from a long line of Londoners(on my dads side) going back centuries(Clerkenwell,Holborn&StGiles) so feel a real attachment for this side of the water. Though I think all quarters of London have something that add to the city. Love this city with a passion and can honestly say I dont want to ever leave again.nhard at times with the prices etc. When I see what others out in Herts,Essex etc get for what I pay round here,it is tempting. But I love being able to get on a bus and have a beer where my grand dad, great grand dad and back further lived and grew up. You cant beat it. |

We drove in and around London from ten am until seven yesterday, for various reasons, and that involved north and south. First time I have seen them in daylight, one after another .... north looked much grittier and the people seemed different, but also interesting ... felt a sigh of relief when we came back south. Seems much more relaxing to me with the streets more open and just cleaner. I am not London born and bred, only been here five years .... love where we are, but working hard to get out into the sticks. |

"I must be going to/through the wrong part of North London as it's grimy wherever I look ... of course, I shall consult with Mr Law who was born and bred here, so obviously knows better ..."
The bits close to the City are tighter, grittier and more densely populated. This was the direction in which London first extended so has centuries of development.
Go to Sutton House in Hackney and you can see a model of the rich and vast farms and grand townhouses that were countryside but soon became parts of London.
The current configuration of London is 50 this year. Many of the Outer London boroughs were created then, particularly in South London where there were areas that had not been seen as London. Those boroughs closer to the City, like Hackney were formed of the former smaller boroughs (Shoreditch, Hackney, Stoke Newington).
South of the River is a relative newcomer to the landscape of London.

"Enfield on Saturday - I was surprised how rural it was ... "
It's only 50 years old. It was one of the new boroughs where it had been suburbia/countryside in 1964 and London in 1965.

Enfield is in Middlesex even though it has a London telephone code and a Hertfordshire postcode prefix
I am north of the river and always have a small panic attack going over or under the Thames.
Now live in Herts (only just) but still able to get on a London bus but nearest tube station is a 20 minute (on a good day) drive away.
I love being here as countryside on my doorstep and a 40 min train ride to London.
Culturely diverse but very large ethnic communities.

You're right, that's about as South as it's comfortable go before you enter the unchartered, There Be Dragons, south. "
I agreed to meet a guy from Fulham for dinner, said lets meet halfway - we looked at a map and both went...

My bit of North London doesn't have the Range Rivers but we've got an abundance of wild urban foxes. Mating season is like living in a horror movie.

South London born and bred. I haven't heard "darkie" since the 70s!
I'm not a fan of north London and rarely go into the centre: too much people. Expensive houses with no outside space, garage or parking.
