Urban exploration/walking group
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi all, I am trying to gauge an interest in urban exploration/walking group for us to possibly have an opportunity to meet & mingle, to allow friendships & connections to arise. We could have a weekly/fortnightly/monthly walk around some of the City's oldest streets & passageways, perhaps a cheeky beer or vino in some atmospheric old pub by the River?
Let me know your thoughts and if there’s any interest. |

I would be interested. I love London, its history and I am fairly local (in London terms, Zone 2) |

Looks like it’s only us, Mr Jack |

I would give it time. It's a lazy afternoon in London. People are out (I am, having lunch in Soho). They'll be back online in the evening. Not that I would complain if it was just us |

Neither would I.
Fair point, it just shows patience is not my forte

A great idea - I really like this kind of thing - wandering to interesting places with the occasional historic pub and a bit of socialness too.
Please add me to your collection. How should these trips out be organised though?
Cheers, Lol |

Thank you. It would be just simply a meet up on agreed earlier time and location (Saturday and somewhere central with easy transport links), walk through the city, talk, chill, get some drink or something to eat , that’s it really.

Sounds good but seems that it would be a sausage fest. Unless you're planning a soft outdoor gangbang I think it will be just you and a bunch of guys. The idea is nice though, outdoor mingling is great fun. |

I agree. Love the idea but it will only work with balanced ratio. I’ll give it more time though, hence this post, literally to gauge an interest. |

Here's what could potentially work... make it a women-only walk, but... each woman is allowed to bring one male co-walker. The starting point is only known to women, so no random guys can tag along. |

Have you considered attending other socials in London area? There are plenty, one of the best is Pickles picnic, chilled vibe, great host and good atmosphere. |

This is an absolutely brilliant idea Dee! Wandering around London's ancient streets and finding out the history behind them is one of my all time favourite activities! An all-swinger free walking tour is an amazing concept. Every city needs this!!!
Would love to be involved. Plus there's loads of self-guided tour plans we can borrow from. Followed by a few pints! |

Hi, I’d be interested in joining this walkabout.
When I was in my 20’s I was a member of a singles club ( not swingers ) in London and I used to organise a session at Mile End climbing wall then followed by a session at Rio’s so had a bunch of complete strangers who weren’t swingers naked at Rio’s - it was great. |

Thank you so much.
The idea is great but unfortunately in this kind of setting as Fab is, it only will work with a balanced ratio of women, couples and single men, and it doesn’t look like it so far.

I do some urban exploring and I am not sure you mean that as its about exploring area in an urban area like new builds, or building that are about to be demolished.
Google it and you will see what I mean.
As for walking about! its a great idea but you need to arrange a few pit stop areas (ie pubs) for drink breaks |

Hi, as it’s a great idea and an excellent opportunity to meet new people, I wish it was happening but honestly I feel a little bit discouraged, thanks to some who decided it was a great idea to let me know in detail what they would like to do to me if we were alone in some secluded areas.
Totally unnecessary and VERY creepy so if anyone would like to take over the project, you’re more than welcome to do so.
Great to see more women and couples coming forward to this thread to participate though. |

Hi Dee
What a shame. So sorry you were subjected to that. Particularly as there seems to be quite a lot of support / enthusiasm for the idea. I would be happy to pick up the baton and see if we can trial a walk. The weather is getting better and I find walking is a great way to meet new people. I have a plan in mind - a lovely walk exploring the area around Little Venice. If that „floats your boat“ or anyone else’s , I’ll get onto organising dates, times route etc. All I ask is that if you say you are coming you turn up (or send a cancellation not at the last minute) and PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL AND CONSIDERATE TO ALL. |

Great - and thank you for being the founding individual to suggest it!
I’ll set the first one up. It’ll likely be a weekday early evening in June. It’s light til 9.30/10 and should be pleasant temp for walking. It’ll be around a 1 hour walk to start and finish somewhere nice for a drink. I’ll try to find somewhere we can sit outside as it’ll hopefully be sunny. I appreciate the original intention was for a Saturday walk but I think a weekday might work better. For those interested please confirm if you are still interested during the week (subject to agreeing actual dates of course!). If you have a preferred day of the week please include in your message and we will endeavour to go with the most popular day. Look forward to walking with those who can attend .. |

I’ve just Finished a 3 hour guided walk of west London / Soho. Theme for the walk was chocolate and choclatairs. Very enjoyable, very informative and seemingly very popular with the ladies. Just saying. |

I think it’s pretty obvious for everyone now to see why this project, otherwise fantastic, won’t ever happen.
Fine example for everyone to see above, similar crap in my inbox daily, still on the back of this thread.

I know they're hard to ignore, but they are easy to block.

It's a great idea. Difficult re gender balance, but I'm interested in social walks anyway. I work in the City, and never take the time to explore what's on my doorstep |

Sounds great, weve often thought about finding a Dickens' London tour |

Have their actually been any walks to date? Interest to know. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
Love the idea, I’ll get my boots on. I used to live in Battersea and these days often go to London to do photoshoots, mainly of the architecture. I know some great walks and interesting pubs if you want some help. Could be a day or evening social event.

"Hi all, I am trying to gauge an interest in urban exploration/walking group for us to possibly have an opportunity to meet & mingle, to allow friendships & connections to arise. We could have a weekly/fortnightly/monthly walk around some of the City's oldest streets & passageways, perhaps a cheeky beer or vino in some atmospheric old pub by the River?
Let me know your thoughts and if there’s any interest."
Sounds like an interesting idea, I'd like to participate.
could you give me more information? |

"I am up for this"
Think it was just a lovely idea for a no pressure social, with an added bonus of a bit of exercise. You could also be open, and tell people you were going for a gander with a walking group.
I thought it was a superb idea |

I love architecture and history and could think of loads of amazing locations to go for a walk or enjoy the view. I also go to a pretty cool language group for people learning a second language or speaking one and want to meet similar.
Please keep me posted if this happens |
