Are you sure it was for drink? There was one open in Cork but only for food and asked to take it away

We went to a pub yesterday.

Yes it was serving drink! Yes it was open! Yes we had fun.

But...

They had their doors locked to prevent people from crowding and only let in so many at a time.

People were well distanced from each other.

Just because someone is seeking some kind of normality and does things within reason doesn't make them a monster.

Should coffee shops lose their licence to sell coffee too?

Let's leave everyone with no work and income sure. That'll show them spreaders what's what.

I'm sure there's 100s of pubs letting ppl inn around the country especially small rural pubs.

On a positive side thought... fair play to Guinness for throwing €1.5m into the kitty to help towards all the pub staff that have lost their jobs.

You know... if we can take anything away from all of this is that everyone is in the same boat no matter race or creed , to see ppl coming together for the greater good is somewhat inspiring. And with the Grace out good we'll come out the other side of this virus and hopefully be able to hold on to some of that generosity.

Stay safe ppl

Is it safer to have grandparents look after them while parents are trying to earn a living as they have zero financial aid from the government when they are forced to stop working?

Big difference in people having a coffee and those intoxicated ...there are thousands of health workers out there putting their and their families lives in danger trying to protect others .the government asked for help to try limit social contact .closing pubs playgrounds even mass and social gatherings ...maybe myself and the number of people contacting the radio are wrong .but we are all in danger and have a moral responsibility if not to themselves but to others .

Different rules up the North to down south

The pub in Belfast seemed to be taking precautions as did the people that went into it.

All you can do is minimise the risk if you go out .

I'm in work today and trying to stay 2m from everyone

Please answer my direct question - is it SAFER to let grandparents to look after the kids while kids are usually asymptomatic and don't even know they have anything when they do?

This media caused scare and panic are created for ease of crowd control.

Big boys at the top will say anything now and everyone will just nod in agreement. Bonus points if the big boys will create a short catchphrase.

Same virus, divergence on how to deal with it. Social distancing will help limit it but very few can live the hermit life with no contract and still earn enough to look after themselves and their family. Day to day life must go on for some

exactly. Some bit of normality Is needed. U cant live like a hermit and do fuck all. U can easily go out apply social distancing, wash the handles and live some bit of a normal life.

"If you are so desperate for a drink knowing that you mite put ur life and the lives of your loved ones in danger of getting this virus you should have serious look at yourself maybe you need help "

Desperation for a drink has absolutely zero things to do with anything. If people were desperate for alcohol - they would be happy enough with pubs being closed and would just stock up and get plastered at home.

Some are desperate to find some sort of normality and spend at least a day feeling at least semi normal.

Two completely different things.

You should have a serious look at yourself before starting to judge anyone else around you.

People in health care front line down here with small kids were asked NOT to get their parents or grandparents to mind the kids , funding is made available to care for their kids had they been in playschool or crèches, wether they will still get their parents or grandparents to mind their kids is of course another matter ,they might just take the money and still get them to mind them ,who knows ,but they were asked not to .

If schools close, so will daycare, responsibility will fall on families, elderly relatives are ruled out, so money or no money, there will be limited options for child care

Oh I'd like to make it verrrrrry clear that I think going to the pub and acting responsibly are now officially mutually exclusive. I do not support people going to the pub. And that is the nicest possible way I can say it without being overtly rude and abusive.

Are you related to Boris in some way? Are you two mates or something? Maybe he's your cousins step brother in law and you've seen him at some kind of family or friends gathering?

Why do you keep referring every single thing to Boris?

Do you think that people in NI can't even take a shit without Boris explaining them how to wipe themselves after?

Are you imagining the North to be some kind of a dark place where crowds of savages are just randomly lick each other's faces only because Boris didn't tell them not to?

It's your child, your responsibility. School isn't childcare.

Should have thought about it before having kids!

(I didn't mean a single thing, this is exactly what I've been seeing internet people tell parents, often single parents, how they should cope with the situation)

If it's a group of children - how is it different from just going to school?

It's good that the hse is trying to put some provisions in place but not everyone that is a key worker works in healthcare. Money is no good if there's no one to pay to look after a child

Thank you, a most gracious answer. We, like everyone else on the frontline, will do our best for those in our care

"Down here the hse are arranging child care for their front line workers which is the right thing to do .302euro a week for anyone that gets virus or has to self isolate.

.

Is it individual child care or group?

If it's a group of children - how is it different from just going to school? "

For one the numbers will be much smaller and secondly there will be extra precautions put in place. (No idea what that means).

Measuring everyone's temperature and sending kids with symptoms home before they enter the school every morning and taking them same measures isn't enough then? (Extra measures I assume is group hand washing and extra supervision when it comes to kids putting random stuff on their faces.

My bad! I thought the government could only ask pubs to close. Then I checked online and saw about the closure order.

So I guess you could call the Garda.

I honestly don't see what the problem is if one or two pubs are still open if the owners are being strict with the social distancing not everyone goes to the pub to get completely smashed some don't even drink they gets like a glass of or lucozade or simply order some food we can't begrudge people for trying to have some kind of normal life

We absolutely can, if it even marginally increases the risk of people dying, you know, actual people.. You do know that people who are infected are infectious before they have symptoms yeah? But sure, it's worth risking someone else's life for a pint and a bit of craic isn't it..

A study carried out in italy shows that a lot of carriers dont show symptoms and may not feel sick but are still contagious to others. So while u enjoy ur few pints think of the other people that u may effect if u become one of these carriers your mom or dad maybe an elderly grand parent of neighbour perhaps a close friend that has an unknown underlying illness or ur drinking buddy

Bit late at their funeral saying maybe i should have adhered to the best advice of the time and only went out for essential things

Its simple the mord contact we have the more we infect the more deaths

Sure it only kills the old and sick anyway by the end of this the government will save a fortune on pensions and retirement homes will become few and far between no way to fully eradicate this.. It'll kill all of us off at a youngish age maybe its right

But you don't have to drink in a pub you can still socialise by keeping a minimum distance again not everyone goes to pubs to get smashed and have a good old sing and dance with each other sure it's the same set up as if your going to the shops you still have to keep your distance and still can socialise with people like we haven't been advised to completely ignore each other just use common sense is all it really isn't that hard if people are taking the precautions necessary in safety and cleanness who are we to judge them how they live their life

"Yeah right people with a few drinks to keep their distance ...that's a laugh ."

Because as soon as one drinks a pint or two the urge to touch and hug everyone, spit, cough and sneeze on everyone becomes uncontrollable while washing hands becomes something alien and just a pure thought of it makes people cringe, while hand sanitizer is just there to show off to people and not actually use it.

I'm telling you - up north we're just all d*unken savages, without any common sense just going rampant looking for a first moving and breathing thing to rub ourselves against because Boris adviced social distancing but he never mentioned anti social nsa.

Again not everyone goes out to get smashed like there is such a thing as a social drink and still have the sense of What they are doing not everyone are monsters out to get you and your simply going by what you heard on the radio this pub could also be running as a restaurant so none of us know what the full story so pointing at the owner without knowing that isn't exactly fair

What do you mean by immature adults? Is it what I have described as part of your imagination of what is happening in the North?

How come you haven't mentioned Boris? Thought Boris was your best mate. What happened?

Also where is Boris or anybody else to cover the contracts and wages of people who are outstanding at their jobs but are working on zero hour contacts as they prefer to get paid for every single hour that they do put into their jobs.

Tell me please what did good social distancing Boris do to put some food on their table.

I do have a feeling you may have some special contact with Boris at this point as you have Borrissed the life out of this thread previously.
