Sentencing really needs to be looked at tbf. The stuff people get probation for is shocking |

"Wonder what you would have got
Are you a garda lol"
First offense...with a record of serving the community...in a highly stressful enviorment. An assault that caused no long term physical injury.
About the same I would say. And no I am not a guard. |

Oh yes but sentencing is some parts is also down to judges discretion. I didnt deal much with criminal law but you would hear the grumbles in the legal circuit. Some crimes really do need to carry more time |

"Scumbags get away with this all the time.
One of them was running around in drag with a machine guy trying to kill people and didnt get sent to jail."
One of who ???
When ???
And where ???
Or is this just more of the same selective misinformation
I agree twelve months suspended is just in this case taking his service and record into acc considering there are also possibly repercussions in his job |

Did u look at the video while the cameraman was just doing his job as was the guard both seemed engrossed in what they were doing,
as the crowd withdrew around the camera mam they left him exposed to the baton wielding guard. The problem here is the guard didn't stop and he hit an innocent man he's training should have kicked in and prevented this it didn't and the man is paying the price if he had gone as far as apologising he would have being given a lighter sentence from what i can see in the news reports
He made a mistake in a volatile setting he's wrong and serving just penalty

I'm not sure about the facts around this case but it's one thankless job in this country being a Garda
All you have do to is check out the last 100 videos uploaded onto UTube Garda being abused every day by people
Imagine you trying to do your job and you have idiots sticking there phones in your face calling you names looking for a reaction
I've 2 pals who are in the force and the abuse they get daily certainly isnt worth what they get paid |

The simple truth is, judges and gards rarely face legal justice. Just like criminals rarely face it.
Criminal justice is just for the ordinary people who try to obey the rules.
Like when a drug dealer gets caught driving without tax or insurance, the punishment is nothing to them, not allowed drive, they just continue on driving or get taxis.
For me and normal people, we lose our cars, our jobs, our marriage, our kids and get sent to jail.
This is why ordinary people can get so annoyed when they see a cop break the rules and get what amounts to a wrist slap. |

I think the sentence fitted the crime in this instance.....if you are looking for a insight watch the new programme about a station in Dublin...i wasn't surprised at the level of abuse they endure but i think some might be.... |

Play silly games win silly prizes.
That camera guy could have moved out of the way sooner. Or a colleague could have pulled him out of the way.
Yeah a baton across the thigh or arm hurts like fuck but what do you expect it was a mini riot.
Sometimes to keep the peace you need a big stick.
The Garda get a lot of negative press , nobody is ever as quick to praise when the do something good. but it's my opinion that it shouldn't have even got to court . |

Never heard about anyone lost his kids or wife just because he was driving without tax or insurance.
Btw you mix up justice and law. Pretty much not the same. |

"So what deserves a prison sentence ..a pensioner who doesn't get a licence for his dog .....
Fair play to the garda that noticed that"
It was a 40year old.
And he wasnt jailed for not having a dog licence...
He was jailed for ignoring court orders to pay the fine.
Whats the alternitive at that stage just say ok so sorry keep ignoring the law |
