Be a few months before any of that is sorted or changed. |

Too late vrt same but now have a new tax on top of vrt on all cars being imported so can make care more expensive than buying secondhand here
Vans and pickups not sure
But think you need all income tax etc up to date |

Nox tax I think I’d see at maximum for petrol at 2000 diesel is maximum of 4600 euro on top of vrt, I know someone bringing in 1 lite petrol fiesta it’s 200 on top of vrt for nox. Old diesels could be very expensive to bring in now you need to work out the nox tax or you could get very nasty shock, if you don’t have nox or it’s not in logbook it’s maximum straight away. |

As a knock on effect older diesel cars will retain some value now it's to expensive to bother importing cars |

"How does vrt apply to a van ?
Thinking a 171 traffic or something similar "
From memory commercial vehicles were only subject to a flat €200 fee upon importation.
For private cars there's plenty of info on the Revenue website including a VRT calculator but at the moment this doesn't include a NOX calculation which is seperate. |

VRT is for cars imported to Ireland regardless of its origin even if it is an EU member country. VRT is calculated based on the OMSP so yes, the way it is calculated will remain the same |

You will now have to pay VRT based on Co2 and Nox. Sterling is not favourable either, factor in transport and other expenses and there probably wont be a saving unless the car is quite new.

VRT is technically illegal, you're not supposed to tax a product twice in the EU.
Ireland put the tax on registering the car, and VAT on the purchase of the car. If it comes from outside EU you will then have Import Duty on top of that.
Will Import Duty be applied to cars from the UK? we wont know until end of year.
We should get rid of vrt/road tax. But people will now come in and tell me "But where will we replace the money from", and do the job of the government to convince me that everything should be taxed, cause I mean its used so well to supply health care and housing. |
