While I won't walk under leaders I haven't diverted my journey because a black cat crossed my path or I don't wave off a magpie, but a Superstition of mine is if a ringing in my ear starts I make the sign of the cross three times over that ear and I say a prayer. When I was a child I was told that the ringing is a deceased member of the family or friend asking you to say a prayer for them.. What's your Superstition? |

Yes I know people who wave at magpies and even make the sign of the cross to wave off bad luck |

"I wave at magpies and don't walk under ladders. Stupid I know but I just do it even tho I say I won't "
We all do these acts for the same reason..lol. I wouldn't consider myself religious but I find I always say a prayer when I get a ringing in my ear because of what I was told as a child..lol |

I never cross people on the stairs, if they are on the stairs first I'll wait and give way if I'm on the stairs and it looks like someone is gonna try and join me I'll make myself look as big as possible so there is no room for them lol |

I don't walk under ladders but more because I don't want to get hit by a falling bucket or a workman's drill then a superstition .
Had 5 black cats at home when I was a kid so that one is out the window too.

I never heard this one
I purposely walk under ladders which is probably stupid in itself. I haven't suffered any ill effect as of yet but I still haven't won the lotto so there is that |

I haven't watched a live Liverpool Premier League match for just over a year.
I missed a few last season and realized they never lost when I didn't watch.
The streak is still going strong.
I'm terrified to start watching live games now |

I work at sea, so I can't move for them.
No whistling onboard, ever. (It calls a storm)
Flowers are bad luck onboard (they'll be used to make a wreath at your funeral) , as are women (unless they're naked) and rabbits (they'd eat through the hull of wooden boats, little fuckers). But even to this day I've worked for captains who won't have rabbit onboard.
Cats are good luck.
Cutting your hair, finger or toe nails at sea is bad, something to do with an offering to some other Greek god but your in Neptune's domain and he doesn't take too kindly to it, but like all gods, he loves a bitta cash, he's just not very good with it and always needs more, so it's good luck to toss a coin into the sea as your leaving port. |

Bless yourself with the little holy water thingy at the front door if you've quickly returned to the house cause you've forgotten something.
Always leave the house the same door you came in |

We had Fairy mounds out our way, even though the whole area has been redeveloped, they never leveled them or built on them. |

I heard most of them but some are new to me like
Crossing on the stairs
Falling in a graveyard dead in a year
The ringing in the ear is totally new. I have it almost constantly at varying levels this past year but was told it was tinnitus.

The ringing wouldn't be tinnitus as it only comes on every now and again for varying amount of time. |

Now in MALAGA (SPAIN) |
I got married on the 13th, my daughter was born on the 13th and myself at 7th. Lucky numbers lol
Ive heard about rubbing an eye - left for fun, right-sad news
Also about listen pregnant women even if they arent right.
Another one is about dogs (and this might be truth): if they bark and tail is up- something nice will happen, if they woofs and tail is down - death |

I get that occasionally. It always seems to stop when I answer the phone.
Not walking under a ladder is really just common sense in my opinion. I just don't believe in superstitions at all. |

"The ringing in the ear is something i can associate with it comes& goes , ear muffs not worn early enough i think "
I've worn ear muffs since I was 16 for working in noisy environments. I remember getting strange looks from the neighbours when wearing them driving the tractor. I have used them all my working life as I'm constantly using machinery but for the last number of years I've had tinnitus and it can be quite annoying. It's not debilitating but it's always there unless you can zone it out occasionally.
You can get it as well from ear infections.
I reckon those noisy nightclubs/discos back in the eighties are probably the source of it. |

This is the best response so far! Hilarious about the gods needing more money. Spot on. |

Funnily enough I recently read an article about superstition. It’s reasoning was that it’s heavily related to people who have OCD or higher levels of anxiety. I’ll try and dig the article out and post it on here |
