From what I've seen its been really faithful to the books so far. Some of the scenes are exactly as described. |

I thought it was more horror then fantasy , maybe I need to reread it |

I'm a big fan of the games and the books.. But I think there are very little TV shows or movies that live upto what you imagine in your head when reading the books..

You have to wait till very far through the season for things to be pulled together.
As for comparing it to game of thrones, well its totally different, and when you compare it to others that are like it, its one of the best tv shows in its class.
Game of thrones is one of the best tv shows in its class, but I dont rate the story as good as something like Dune and I can see why it was unkown before the TV show. I remember seeing the actors interviewed and them saying they never knew it would be a success as the book sales were low, none of them had read it or anything and a lot just took the job cause people like Sean Bean were signed up.
As far as I know, the Witcher series is a million times more popular at the start of this show than game of throes was at the start of that show. |

It was decent enough... I'm not hanging on the edge of my seat for series 2 though, and found Cavill's contacts a bit too distracting... Every time I saw him on screen I found myself thinking 'oh there's those yellow contacts again....' rather than following the dialogue or story. |
