For my part, i certainly do.." I do believe in God. Someone can say it doesnt exist, its your imagination. Those who believe dont care. We just know instinctively. Life is full of surprises. We make good or bad decisions. We have a free will to do good or bad things. Its upon us. How do we live? What choices have we made or will do? All depends on us. We have a power in our hands and minds. Believing that there is someone who takes care of us, can lead us and forgive us what we have done might help. Also, giving us a hope in a hopeless situations that there might be better, we can heal, we can fight to beat a cancer, etc. We all need a leader who shows us the right path It really doesnt matter we are Christians, Muslims or Buddists once we find a peace and live as a good people, helping each other. Did you ever look in the mirror and ask yourself: what have I done to others? Or you just stand up, look at yourself and complain its everybody's fault but not yours? Maybe I went too far but its never too late to be a good person and having desires and fantasies its just human being thing. Simple "think before you take any action" should be applied. No one is perfect but many of us want to be. It isnt something bad having a plan and goals in our lives but we have to remember that we arent alone and need to respect others. Treat them like we want to be treated. Being kind, nice and helpful cost nothing but definitely might change someone's miserable and tough life. Smile more often, people and stay positive! "Stephen Fry. lol. The guy who said all traditional medicine was nonsense. Few years later antibacteria found in Irish traditional medicine able to kill super bugs. His bias is palpable." I don't believe with everything he says, in the same way we get along with lots of people but don't agree with every view they have. All I'm saying is that his view on "God" is an interesting one.

Yeah, its interesting glimpse into the mind of someone with his mental health problems. That any God that does not create a living paradise for him is a scumbag. (at least thats what I understood his belief to be).

Severe depression, eating disorders and suicide attempts. Admitted after the interview that he was still suffering manic depression. Then you hear him talk about god with anger in his voice, how god is a scumbag for letting a single child suffer, for not giving him a happy world. 80% of people suffering mental health problems could explain why he is so popular. He is articulate, and him being able to articulate the opinions and fears in him, in a way others who have suffered mental health problems can feel is truthful and representative of how they feel would be nice for them.

Quantum entanglement can be tested and proved experimentally, you can SEE it happen if you have the right equipment. It's not supernatural. There are loads of different gods for different religions. None of which can be proven to exist experimentally. All of which rely on their own set of beliefs. Most of which conflict with each other.

OK I'll bite. How can one test for the existance of the powers of a particular god.

"And.... which one? I vote Thor. " Yeah if I ever decided to believe in a god it would probably be Thor. He's badass. None of this floating about in a cloud nonsense. Plus he has the best weaponry.
| |||
"OK I'll bite. How can one test for the existance of the powers of a particular god. " Quite easy. For example, lets say God knows what will happen next. Can we have a scientific reason for how this could be. Yes. If we drop a stone in a pool of liquid and we observe and watch the ripples, and we then do it again, excat same stone, exact same body of liquid and we drop it again, we can predict what waves will happen. With a super computer we can predict what will happen every atom of water in the container of liquid. Now supposes this is not the first big bang, its repeating over and over according to the theory of stephen hawkings. This would mean that anyone who has seen a big bang happen to its end, can predict what will happen in the next. You can also say that if every single atom was placed in exactly the same position, and the big bang happend exactly the same situation as before. Then this line of existence would already have been observed. I would have written this post, and every single atom in the universe would have acted in exactly the same way as before. And like quantum entanglement, for some powers we might not understand them, as no one on the planet knows how quantum entanglement works. We could just observe the result of the power, so we can change one and see the other change instantly. We dont need to see the "how" to say it is sound, we just have to observe the outcome. For example turning water into wine. We don't need to know how it was done, we just need to scientifically observe it happening to sign off on it as being true. For a God like entity to be able to read your mind all they would need to do is be able to see the electricity travel through your brain and have an advanced understanding of what it all meant. They are just some ways an entity could have god like powers while still staying within the rules of the natural world.

"What a brilliantly incoherent pseudo-scientific rant of half understood concepts and misattributed ideas. Dropping something in a puddle can prove a God exists? Wow" Observing quantum entanglement proves it though? You observe something, you come up with a theory to explain that observation. Some things have no theory to explain the observation, like quantum entanglement, others do like gravity. If you observe an entity that knows what will happen next, you propose a theory as to how this can happen, You then test that theory. Not having a theory to explain the observation does not mean the observation did not happen. It still happened. This is why things like schrodingers cat thought experiments are in science, so that when we can not observe something, we must assume all outcomes are possible. You tell me one of gods powers, as if you observed it directly with your eyes, and I will give you a theory as to how it happened within the realms of the natural world. That is what you asked me to do, and then you disregard my theory because you never observed god using the power. So why ask then?

"I reckon a lot of the nonbelievers would be the first to seek help from God if some tragedy came to there door. " Yes I'm sure. People will cling to any kind of belief that offers hope once medicine hasn't got anything else to offer. For many it might be homeopathy or organics, some turn to drugs or sex, for others it might be meditation, for others they might look to the Christian god, or maybe the hindu one. Others find the buddist ideas of reincarnation comforting. Doesn't mean any of the gods are actually real.

"I don't believe in a separate all powerful being who resides in the sky and looks down judging everything we do. When you look into quantum mechanics you discover that all matter in the universe, on a quantum level, is vibrating energy. You, me, and everything in the universe are just energy. Energy can't be created or destroyed, just transferred or changed from one form to the other (first law of thermodynamics). So in that sense, we may well be around forever and have always been around in some form or another. But then you have the question of consciousness. Well, your guess is as good as mine but I believe that we are essentially a way for the universe to know and experience itself. It's like the tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it, how can the universe exist if there's nothing there to experience it? And if this is the case, then our experiences are individual expressions, thoughts and dreams of the one collective consciousness of the universe, or God. So yes, in my opinion not only does 'God' exist, but we are all God." I like this. In a símilar vein (and to quote the the very rev fatboy slim) we are all made of stars. Literally. The atoms that make up our bodies were once part of stars, which exploded in ancient times and was scattered across the universe. We are godlike in that sense
"Load of codswallop. Early religion was out of fear of things people didn't understand and then catholicism was basically a means of control for the roman empire. But to each their own. Believe what you want. Won't begrudge people that do. " This 100%
"I reckon a lot of the nonbelievers would be the first to seek help from God if some tragedy came to there door. " Nope, I've not once.
"I reckon a lot of the nonbelievers would be the first to seek help from God if some tragedy came to there door. " Non believers tend to learn to deal with their problems without blaming the invisible man in the sky for "his mysterious ways", nor asking him for invisible help.

"Here's a thought. Ignore all religion. Forget about Bible/Koran/ any book. Burn them and say that there is no higher being/lower being or God/Devil. Everyone is equal and there is no belief system. Guess what happens? No war, no arms trade, genuine politics, real issues dealt with, regardless of social class or beliefs. What a weird, wonderful world it would be if everyone lived for today, without any religion, of any kind" I wish that were true but the reality is religious zealotry is usually just a foil for trying to legitimize war. Money, power, land grabs, oil, historic grudges etc are usually the real reason. Most religions whether you are a believer or not are based on kindness and compassion but people have seen opportunity to take bits from the different teachings, de-contextualise them and use them to support their own agenda.
