"I see primary school in Wicklow has banned kids bringing smartphones to school. Good idea? What age were your kids when you let them have a phone?"
My two kids don't have phones at school. My 10years old daughter brings the phone once she and her brother visit their father. My 14years old nephew refused to have a smartphone as a gift. He said doesn't want it. His friends live in the same are, so he can just pop in. |

Regarding your question: banned. Kids these days spend too much time gaming or watching TV. There is no end of the world if they wouldn't have a phone with them. If necessary they can call parents using phone in the school office. |

I always said never while in primary school but relented and got one for my eldest for confirmation. The reason was so I could contact them directly and not go through the child minder. Check that they were happy etc.
Even now as young adults I get piece of mind checking snap maps rather than constantly asking where are you. So I am a fan of smart phones. |

As far as I know most schools won't allow the usage of phones during school hours.
Loads of pupils will have a phone in their pockets switched off or on silent. It's handy for parents if there's a change in picking them up. |

Our eldest (13) has one but its use is controlled and monitored. His school doesn't allow phones so the kids keep them in their bags until after school.
I think people need to lighten up about phone and tablet usage with kids. It's the same as any bad habit e.g. junk food, if it's in moderation then there is no issue |

We all are strict in family. No phones allowed during the meal, etc.
It's all about teaching the children. Nothing else. |
