This is more in relation to alarms but don’t buy Eircom they are a scam you don’t actually own the alarm so if you want to leave them You’ll Have to buy a new one for yourself |

I got hikvision cams installed a few months back and id recommend them i got the turbo 2.0mp ones picture is like high definition it wouldn read a number plate but youd know model of car no problem hope this helps |

I've got several Hikvision systems and you would read a number plate. Its dependent on the quality of camera you add to the system. There is not a big difference in the camera price for better image quality. As a previous poster said they are good and reasonably priced. |

I work in the trade and price of packages have come down, you can get them with all the requirements you need , also keep you warranty when you don’t snip the cables, there’s not a whole lot to it...... hik vision are the one to go for, simple set up and very good quality for what you spend, I’d recommend them.... stay away from wireless units or cheap sets as they’ve move from analog to digital, you want to monitor when you want to not when something happened.... |

I'll ask my fitter and let you know. Number plates are crystal clear on my systems. |

I used to install cctv systems. Just to mention you should always get a psa certified installer. Of course alot of systems are straight forward but apparently if you catch footage of crime and you installed it yourself home insurance dont pay out. Mad i know but they just want any excuse. |

Most cctv is only a deterrent, if they come to do your house and you have cctv, then they'll be cctv aware...a balaclava and they're sorted, doesn't matter how good the system is, or picture quality. £200 8 camera Floureon system, self installed, does me rightly. Was quoted £1000 for 4 camera Hikvision system |

I have used many systems over the years and its clear why cheap systems are cheap. Up to now I have found Hikvision to be the best. Yes if someone is CCTV aware it makes it much more difficult but most incidents are opportunistic. I had someone who thought by turning off the lights and plunging the place into pitch darkness it would cover what they were doing. What they didn't realize is that the cameras are infrared and they literally turn night to day. With infrared, alarm, motion detect, excellent clarity, zoom and slow motion....not much gets past. |

Hik Vission all the way, a 2 terabyte record and Hik Vision HD Tubro fixed cams (wide angle) perfect for home use can be viewed remotely
Yes you can install your own system, it is regulated and you have to be a registered installer to install for others but you can install in your own home
Yes you can install a back up power supply unit that provides coverage during power outages, its basically just a panel with a DC output and takes an alarm battery. This works out cheaper as it eliminated having to purchase individual DC power supplies for each camera and clutter at your dvdr
Cameras can be wired with data cable (cat 6) using Ballans at either end this will carry power and image up to 90 meters and is better than coax on longer runs
My alarm is HKC which I have an app on my phone for so if I get an activation I can go straight in my cameras through my Hik connect app to see what's going on if I'm away from home
