I would say it is still like smoking. The physical act is pretty similar and then you are still inhaling a whole bunch of chemicals that no one knows what they will do.
If you wanna give up, give up. |

I agree, I find someone vaping in my vicinity will make me cough just as cigarettes do (am mildly asthmatic probably due to passive smoking as a child). It's full of chemicals. |

I was a heavy smoker for about 20yrs. Was convinced I needed them to keep me sane and calm. Then the penny dropped that I was in a vicious circle. Couldn't make ends meet ... smoked to ease stress. It was the bloody smokes and the cost of them that was stressing me out in the first place!
Gave up Easter a year ago. Just picked a date and went cold turkey. Wasn't easy at the start but this year I had the money to take the kids on a sun holiday ?? |

It is. I smoked 40 a day. Decided to give up so did. It’s all about willpower for the first three days. After that it is just a habit. |

I reckon inhaling vaporised ethanol along with who knows what else is not going to be good for you. But I am no doctor! |

I think vaping is great.
I think people who start to vape and then do it where smoking is socially unacceptable are twats though. I specifically mean people like the rubberbandits who do it on tv, where children might see and copy, and its a big problem kids copying. Or people who do it where people are eating etc.

When smoking first became fashionable back God knows when, (1800s?) it was thought to have health benefits, including to ease asthma, now we know different. So I do wonder about vapping and what research might show us in years to come. |

Vaping 4 years wouldn't consider it smoking as it's Vaping and definitely haven't had any colds and chest infections in that time so it's definitely not the same a smoking |

It’s not really a question of willpower but mindset. If you want to give up you will. If you don’t patches and all the other crutches will be used to substitute cigarettes.
Why would I want to run seminars |

Delighted and well done you. But it's clearly not that simple for everyone or there would be a lot less smokers. It's an addiction like anyother and many experts that deal with addictions will tell you it is harder to quit than a lot of other addictions. Truly delighted you succeeded but I would have empathy for those mere mortals struggle. Re the original post, smoking is smoking and vaping is vaping. |

Smoked 28 years, last few years were 3 packs a day, I woke up and says "I don't want to smoke anymore" and I didn't, I went cold turkey.
However at 10 months I found I struggled so I bought a vape with 0% nicotene. It never left my hand it was ridiculous. I tried to justify it by saying oh but I'm not smoking!!!!! Ppffft I was still going through the motions of it so that went into the bin also and 5 years later I never had 1 cig since that morning

The chemical, diacetyl, that causes popcorn long is found in certain e liquids and also in tobacco , however the levels in tobacco are far far higher than in e liquid and not one case of popcorn lung has been attributed to smoking so I'd say your not gonna get the popcorn lung from vaping.
As far as receding gums and tooth loss, me personally having vaped for 5 years now I've found that my teeth and gums are in a much better state than when I smoked

I dont but some people would personally I just tell people and if they have a problem they dont have to meet,a few fruity flavours instead of tobacco is usually a good road I find but the extra sugar content can be a catch 22..either neither are probably good but I'd still consider gaping less harmful unless the battery explodes |

yes. yes it is.
voluntarily ingesting particles of matter into your lungs from an electronic cigarette is smoking.
doing so involuntarily is passive smoking.
giving up is difficult but really worth it. took me several goes.

The argument of 'we dont know the long term affects of vaping' is always brought up in vaping vs smoking arguments. Saying we didnt know dangerous affects of smoking untill decades after we started researching it. However that is a false equivalency.
Nowadays with modern equiptment and scientific techniques, databases of every known chemical and their properties, calloborations of high tech facilities and funding across the globe, and the instantanious sharing of info across the internet, we can do the same amount of research in a month as would have taken us 10 years, or even impossible, when smoking reaserch started in the 1940s.
Obviously it's healthier not to vape at all, but the research is overwhelming in the favour that vaping is better than smoke. |

Giving up smoking is easier than people think.
Years ago the tobacco industry financed a report that said giving up smoking was harder than giving up heroin.
This had seeped into peoples minds that giving up is really hard, and they want you to give up trying.
But its actually not that hard. It can have a lot of triggers but once you know what the triggers are the rest isn't actually that hard.
Technically speaking sugar is one of the hardest things to give up, and people give that up. |

Have you quit then? I (Dee) quit nearly three years ago and it wasn't easy at all despite avoiding triggers, using medication to quit and other quitting aids. This was after several years of trying to stop. |

I wouldn't say its smoking its completely different smoking altogether. Theres no harmful fumes from it compare to real cigarettes. You dont stink of cigarettes. I am vaper but I never vape around others that dont smoke in my opinion thats rude.
However i wouldn't call it smoking if thats the case you could say nicotine patches your still smoking you cant smell it but you know the person is doing it its stupid really..
but the mentality of people is if you vape your a dirty cigarette smoker and most probably at some stage smoked in their lives an know how difficult it is to quit.
Especially if you under pressure with work or college an general life. |

Vaping isn't smoking by definition but people will still class you as a smoker. 4 chemicals (3 if you don't use nicotine) are in eLiquid two of which are used in many medicines one of them being Asthma inhalers.
Vaping is by far the lesser of two evils.
I was heavily involved in the vaping industry. even down to making liquids hence my knowledge of what is in the liquids.
I have been vaping since 2012 and was a 40+ a day smoker.
I don't class myself as a smoker as I don't smoke. I'm not burning a tobacco product. The nicotine used in eLiquid is not derived from the tobacco plant)
Also do not use cheap pound shop eLiquids as they cut corners and use Ethanol in some of their liquids which is not safe to vape. Also no oil is contained in eLiquid as the ingredients are water based hence the production of water glycol vapour with no passive nicotine released (as confirmed by the Royal college of Surgeons London) |

It produces more vapour based on the ratio of Vegetable glycerine in the liquid. The more vegetable glycerine the more vapour same as used in nightclub smoke machine except it's pharmacy grade like used in cough bottles and other medicines. |

"Also I tried the patches, cold turkey (worked until the smoking ban) and Champix (do not recommend anyone try them) the only thing that has successfully kept me off the smokes was vaping. " omg those champix are a nasty medication or medicine holy god I'll never take them again. The side affects where unbelievable for me.

Wise words 100% agree
That "cigarettes being harder to quit than heroin" myth has been perpetuated by the tobacco industry itself and never been thoroughly questioned...
Gums, patches, vaping are are all short term "fixes" that rarely if ever work...
Finding the trigger or emotionl" reasons behind any unhealthy behavioural pattern, then addressing that emotion is how someone quits emotional eating, cigarettes or most addictions

One thing I never do as an Ex smoker because that's what I am. Is shame or disregard other people and the method of cessation or alternative they used. For one you're right triggers set it off or even a memory can. but if you fail try again.
As I said I went cold Turkey 6 and a half years off them. Smoking ban came in and I was working as a bouncer. Suddenly everyone was in my face blowing smoke at me.
Back on them for 6 years with multiple attempts at going cold turkey and other cessation methods.
But I still respect others on however they choose to give up or what they use as an alternative. Or even if they still smoke. I'm not one to judge.
Funny thing is some very high ranking medical practitioners in Ireland vape and were customers of mine. |

Yes !!!
Sadly tobacco companies have poured vast sums of money into this to create a whole new market of addicts and secure their profits. It's now as fashionable as smoking was up until the 90's so we are now back to "vaping is good for your health " ...give it 20 yrs for the truth to come out . |

I wouldn't "shame or disregard other people" either. I am a Health Professional so if a client is an ex smoker or in the process of quiting smoking, I'll ask a questions to find out if the approach they're using works occasionally rarely or never works
The reasons for smoking or overeating is emotional and needs to be dealt with as such... |

To me it's replacing one bad habit for another and I've tried to give up cigarettes several times with no success, so I'm going to try vaping as away of stopping
I wish I could get a vape liquid that contains will power |
