Trying to improve my profile

Now I looked at lots of other guys profiles , some are really funny , well stated but then got to the ones ...... genuine guy ( aren't we all ? , and what is an ungenuine guy ? ) , professional ( that means like some of us might not be professional on what we do for a job ? ) |

Professional really annoys me when it's used incorrectly. Professional simply means you get paid for work or a service, as opposed to being an amateur (where you don't). Anyone who works for a living, or gets paid for doing anything is a professional.
So when you see professional couple, professional male or professional lady on a profile, what they've actually said is that they get paid for being a couple, a man or a woman... Which, unless they mean to imply that they are prostitutes or have married for the money, is incorrect  . The correct use is just the word professional on its own, unless they want to stipulate what it is that they do for a living.... Eg, professional chef, golfer, dancer, security, baker, retailer, plumber...

I would take the work professional to mean they work a white-collar job that they needed a qualification to get.
With regards to good profiles.I would say one that is carefully written in sentences, and without txtspk. Good profiles also have something that makes them stand out from the crowd. A potitive outlook confidentlce helps. |

Now I hope all understand I started this thread cause I was bored , wont change anything on mine since I don't have a laptop and make changes on profile using the phone is a pain cause sometimes all comes out mixed up , this site on profile changes is deffo not mobile friendly |

- "I'm in a very stressful occupation" or
"My time is precious" is another "gem"  which really means...
"I work very high up in financial services, so do ask me what my stressful occupation is so that I can impress you even more"

Lol thanks but now and then I like to make changes , it works on mobile but sometimes takes a few attempts till all the words and paragraphs come out right |

I dont think everyone that puts professinal in there profile is trying to be condescending.
The fact that most of us understand what kind of jobs or sectors they work in shows that it is a common enough phrase/use of the word.
At least there isnt weekly threads from some account asking if he should try and file his "tax return" in the hot housewife he is working for that week

I am in a very stressful occupation and my time is extremely limited and precious. And for God's sake I do not work in finance.
Now collar of my work shirt is white, only often covered in sweat from hard physical labour. So wouldn't call it white collar job either. Not all of us professionals are here to brag about how important we are.
Most of the time we just mean that our work gets in a way of life a lot and organizing any kind of meets is extremely difficult as we work unsociable hours and all "yay it's Friday" and "it's finally weekend" doesn't apply to us. Bonus: all the "wanna meet up this weekend" coming from family, friends and fab just makes us a bit sad as most of the time we genuinely can't. |

First of all...
I would just like to point out to some Fabbers that my definition of "Professional" is not the official Wikipedia definition but what we more commonly call a "tongue in cheek" comment
(can't believe I'm explaining all this ...)
I was in fact making light of how "Professional' is often used here on FAB (usually by men  ) as an attempt to impress women with their status and get meets...
Now, the fact is...
A lot of Fabbers work in specialized jobs where a high degree of expertise & proficiency is involved... and YES, most of US work 50+ hours a week so the term professional could be applied to many, many people here

I don't see anything wrong with the term to be honest.
A quick google search explains it as:-
relating to or belonging to a profession i.e white collar, non manual so it is descriptive.
What I do find funny is that some believe they have more rights to be discreet because they are professional. Why??
All work is honest work and life is full of labels mostly descriptive but they only matter if you let them. |
