How on earth would that work? And how would you feel in proving your age to access this site an other 18+ sites.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/politics/leo-varadkar-online-porn-ban-16542753.amp
I remember I had to prove my age to three when I was with them.
I said its my online business and I need full internet access in another words need to access 18+ sites. And had to name this site among other sites as well..
I'd only imagine they got a right giggle out of it.. |

Mr Varadkar said that although he is "wary of moralising" by getting into the realm of censorship, the government is currently working on drafting so-called "porn block" legislation.
He added that his government would engage with their British counterparts in a year or two after the effectiveness or otherwise of their new law could be assessed. |

A credit card contains your age on it so yes it can be done, driving licence, birth certificate, although it has been halted it will happen.
It is against the law for under age to access any sex site. How would you feel if you were talking to a minor you would be called a paedophile maybe that is why it is going to happen. |

But I certainly wouldn't be comfortable in handing over my ID to prove my age to go on a swingers site. Thats embarrassment in my eyes. Was bad enough with three lol. But you do make a fair point there is sick fucks out there thats a known fact. But I have an age limit I tend to go for older people so chances of me talking to a minor is highly highly unlikely. But thats just me one out of millions |

Wait and see. There will be some sort of license required that will have an annual charge.
Of course it will be disguised as 'looking out for the children' but we all know that the benefit of the people isn't much of a concern for governments when there's money to be made.
For the record I agree that minors have too much access to certain online material and yes, something should be done. But don't tell me this is solely for the protection of children.
How about making sure the children of Ireland have a home to sleep in if they are so concerned about them.
Sorry for the rant. I just have trust issues |

Yeah a goverment ban on porn will stop peadophiles accessing young people online. How will it stop them making a young id for facebook/instagram?
Its parents who should be held accountable, not the state to monitor children online.
If a child murders someone or commits a crime, and they go the house and find GTA, Adult films, and adult searches on the childs devices, handcuffs should be put on the parents and they should be put in a cell too.
I should not have to be monitored because of it. Thats just stupid. |

We get what we vote for ..
As for the green wave .. 8% of the vote .it wasn't long ago the same party were in power ..Ryan sitting beside Brian Cowan bailing out the banks and bond holders .telling us to buy diesel cars and save the world ....they are a bunch of parasites ...and we have thousands of students on the streets about climate ..and all the children homeless .Do they not understand they are next to be looking for a home ....roll on the next election |

"We get what we vote for .."
Majority of people didnt vote for him or his party.
He cant help jumping on every fucking bandwagon going though. They didn't say they were for any of this stuff when they were voted for either.
They never put a mandate to the people when they change their minds on an issue. They were anti abortion then changed to pro abortion without letting the people who voted for them have a say.
Democracy has become "Say whatever it takes to get elected and then do whatever you want"
its peverse. |

I'm OK with giving my ID to prove my age. The site isn't illegal, I'm doing nothing wrong in being here, and if it prevents children accidentally (or deliberately) accessing adult sites, I've no issue with it. The alternative of course, is to make all adult sites subscription only, and have a credit card as the only means of payment (you have to be 18+ to own a credit card, but not a debit card), but not all adults have or want to have credit cards, and you'd still have the same paranoid people complaining about having to give their credit card details as would be complaining about giving ID. |

Anyone who thinks this will just be a porn ban will be hugely mistaken. Yes that will be the pubic opinion used to justify the initial legislative debate but if it is passed into law I’m sure there will be a long list tagged onto it. I’m sure anything to do with anti water charges and anti property tax or any other unpopular tax or charge that Leo will dump on us will find its way onto the list of things banned.
It will just be the thin end of the wedge. |

I don't really like the big brother is watching you element behind such filtered censorship.
Sure there's plenty of parental control software and hardware out there to protect the kids when online.
Also if a teenager wants to watch porn, they find a way to watch it. |

I won't be handing over credit card info etc to a Government or 3rd party company to allow me to access adult sites. We have all seen how information can be hacked by either hackers from the outside or an employee from the inside (disgruntled or for money).
As regards protecting the children....this is simply9 parental responsibility to manage their children's internet access and browsing until the age of 18. Giving a smartphone to a 12 year-old is just asking for trouble. Give them a standard mobile phone (dumb phone) for calls and texts so they can be contacted. |

Its up to the parents why should we suffer and be watched on of what sites are sign up to and what porn sites we go to. Im an adult I can watch an enter a site if I wish to without having to hand over anything. To say violence is caused by porn is insane maybe violent xbox an play station games have a part in this. I have seen kids the age of 12 having a top of the range phone thats better than mine like wtf. Give them a noika 3210 like we had we had snake an tbat was it. See no child should be able to access the internet via their phones. Parents are 100 percent at fault here. |

I also dont want any tom dick or harry knowing I am on a swingers site or what porn I watch on porn hub thats for my own business.
Again maybe your happy in handing over your banking details but not all of us are.
I shouldn't have to subscribe to anything in order to access it unless its a paying site to which I have choice. |

I do agree that the age restriction scheme should be more strict. If a person wants to access a site, they should come up with and idea similar to bitcoin where you must add your passport and card number, let's say you don't want your private identity online(and you already have somewhere else, which is pretty easy to hack it, of course if a person loves hacking), so just don't watch online porn, you can always buy it somewhere else and stream or have a hard copy. Period.
I do agree it should be extremely strict to access porn online... |

Thats not how a porn block works. A porn ban blocks all legal content in the state. So pornhub, xhamster.
Boy A accessed illegal content, beastiality images which should have been blocked under current internet filters.
But it wasnt blocked because its illegal content and the site owners use techniques to get around blocks because they dont care about them.
So what you are basically saying is you would prefer a child to stumble across illegal sites getting around our blocks, than legal sites that would happily comply with our blocks.
This is how it ended up working when we tested the best filters in a university, more and more disgusting images were being found as the legal images were filtered out.
If the content is already illegal, already filtered but already findable, then this new block is just for adults who access legal content. |

This is a bit of a Pandora box. Once opened its imossible to close. Since content is already out there in the wild then it can be spread freely. It only needs to have been accessible for one person. The only block I can see working is a default-on AI assisted content checker. It would run on your device and block content that the AI thinks is pornography. It would run with privileges on the device which means it can scan content in any app. False positives are likely but it's no big deal. This AI could be disabled with the use of an unlock code available from the hardware provider, so that adults can choose to enable porn. Obviously not all devices would have this AI as we couldn't expect older devices to support it..but it's something that adults can ensure is enabled on a device that a child has access to. |

We already pay the price, the price as determined by the content provider, not the government. Want your children to end up on the dark web looking for porn? In ways your home filter, isp filter and country filter cant detect? |

In the real world no parents do it. If so, very little might do. Now let's it's from a family of very little morals, a family that let their kids do whatever they what. When I was a teenage, even my friends and I were able to watch porn in a house where their parents were extremely strict about internet content... Now how will we be able to control it in houses that parents don't even know how to use a computer, seriously we most see those of poor computer literacy and not our own realty... Our own reality doesn't apply to every single person... |

Very true point,I was listening to lots of experts that deal with these issues on a daily basis their opinions were that education on how people should be treated is vital not blocking everything ,blocking everything will drive it underground Making it more dangerous for kids.blicking it is like brushing the problem under the carpet |

Just to be 100% clear, "think of the children" is considered an appeal to emotion and a logical fallacy and is not considered a valid argument in debates.
You are not supposed to make laws based on helen lovejoy syndrome.
But is it not true that a child can have sex, get pregnant, have an abortion and not tell their parents? Everyone voted for them to have privacy on their sexual health, and their body if they wanted to.
So why now do I need to be interfered with while going on my legal way to protect them from something that the whole country voted they should have?
What you are saying is, you agree that the goverment limit the freedoms of legally abiding people in order to stop people breaking the law. For example, they should limit all cars to 120kph, they should install gps monitoring on all cars and ways inside the car to stop d*unk people driving. The government should make cash illegal and monitor all monetary transactions in the state because some kids use cash to buy drugs.
And some of these things are already being planned, if people accept an internet block to save the kids, then they will accept all cars limited to 120.
You also assert that you yourself bypassed blocks as a child? and that if you could bypass a home block you can bypass a state one, so you are saying its useless anyway as you know children can bypass blocks? So the block would only apply to me? someone obeying the law? |

By using it free(ly) we are already supporting all the criminally, and all the other bad sides... The only way is to impose a new rule to void under 18 using it. Do you have a daughter or soon? A child you love the most and you want the best and most secure world for them? If so you will understand the importance of a strick ban.
Anyway the law is there, and we still see rubbish on the streets, cigarette butts everywhere, cyclists crashing green lights and using no flaslights at all, people using phone while driving, eating inside the bus... And a bunch of more to name, so are there anyone being penalised? |
