Should the 737 MAX be scrapped? Why?
Are you boycotting it?
I am. Reason, the pilot should be able to manually control the air plane in the case of an emergency, and not a software (like the 737) at any means (at least for now). Let's not blame a software (specially when it bypass the pilot intervention).
And the 737 Max wasn't designed for a bigger engine replacement like they did... This changed the entire aircraft mechanics/physics, so they trying to correct it with softwares = big mistake... |

The jet engine is too high up, this causes some aero dynamics instability. So the software was designed to sense a correct it, which this shouldn't ever be developed. But it was all to make the aircraft more efficient in terms of saving fuel... Pure evil not testing it properly...

I haven't heard about that one, did it really happen?
Maybe her boss was made in a lab of rates, but he/her still need another person to seed him/her in some shit of any kind... |

So essentially they chose to compromise passenger and crew safety in order to cut fuel costs and increase mileage...scumbags but yet I'm not surprised they are all owned by serious players in the international market...look at ryanair...how there hasnt been a crash or mass exodus from that airline both for employees and patrons still amazes me...I guess holidays being cheap is a bigger draw than safety.. |

They are really good "underpaid" pilots. They would be better conducting Luas (nothing against Luas, only a salary contrast regarding to skills and responsibilities level plus years of training)... |

To be fair you trust software to auto pilot you halfway around the world in any plane and wouldn't think about it. This is what was thought of as the next step in aviation, the a380 and similar aircraft are doomed and airlines are switching to smaller fuel efficient aircraft and there is only so many tweaks you can make before you hafto take a big and sometimes risky step forward. Just a pitty this one failed
I agree the computer taking over is complete madness but I do think in a world where everything and anything is being taken out of skilled hands it was only a matter of time before this happened.
As for the boycott, they wont be back till December or early next year so we wont hafto worry for a while yet |

A lot of paranoia on this thread. A mistake was made on the 737 max, but it wasn't anything to do with cost saving that caused it. It was a software glitch. These things do happen in the real world. We have lost space ships to software glitches in the past. Computer simulation is normal and is part of the suite of tests that an aircraft goes through. With regards boycotting, how would you propose to do this? D

unfortunately a computer ur computers run every part of daily life...even complex hospital operations use computers...and many computers controlling lives ... so little surprise planes also |

See heres th thing boeing loaded new bigger engines on to an already sucessfull aircraft to do so they had to move them slightly forward, this caused the aifcraft to pitch up causing a possible stall suitation. To fix this problem they then installed a software update without the knowlage or training of thd airlines flying this new aircraft. Taking a signal from one sensor to right the flight angle of the plane without any redundancy even though the plane has two sensors that can help correct this why didnt they encompass both sensors its down to cost and time delays in getting planes out the door
Effectily they played with lives with their trial and error method employed in this cost saving effort boeing should be brought to court and the full riggors of the law be brought to bere on a mass murder with the correct penalitys imposed
In some states capitol murder bares the death sentence then they might think before playing with others lives to make a dollar |

Modern passenger aviation is largely about saving fuel. Theres nothing wrong with that. Its about remaining profitable while lowering fares,increasing effeciency and improving green credentials. The fact that this model has a different engine doesn't mean there is anything wrong either. Places have swapped engines before without issue. It was thought that the software fix had resolved then issue, but it didn't. A software update may well make the place completely safe... But its gonna be scrapped now anyway for PR reasons. |

Bit of common sense needed here, it’s in nobodies interest for planes to be failing due to faults. Passengers or companies that build them. Because both are doomed if that happens. The fact that we live in a time when social media has the ability to in a lot of cases cause a hysterical responses and perpetuate myths not based on facts is not helping. Mistakes happen be they made by computer or man made error in aviation or land or sea transport. We have to trust manufacturers to build things right, for them to be maintained to best levels and for those flying/driving/sailing them to do the right thing. There is an inherent risk in every mode of transport. Faults unfortunately do happen that’s not a new thing. |

Bigger, heavier and at a different location can change a lot, specially without a rigorous testing, this airplane was already too low to the ground, the wings were too close to the ground to fit this bigger engine, leading them to fit the engine higher up... That does changes the way the aircraft operates... |

I still don't think it should be scrapped. It's gotten done pretty bad PR. If you look at how many 747s that have gone down it's pretty surprising. Boeing got a huge order for the MAX at the Paris airshow there's still huge confidence in the plane. It's just a training and software issue. It wouldn't make sense to scrap the whole project just because a small problem that, to be honest, should have been caught earlier. I'd say what happened is similar to the food industry. If you can prove that the new product is substantially similar to a product already on the market, less approval is needed and accelerates the development to market process. Cost saving is just slander for a quality process that cuts out the shit that then makes a process better |

I crack of laughter (internally) each time I am in a turbulence, with some thoughts of what if the plane falls? Would I be the only one here grabbing the seat handles strong and imaging that I am on an roller coaster saying/screaming "oowhooo, faster, amaaazing"... |
