(Never had an STI in my life, neither have I met anyone new for a long time, just heard some fun stories about myself and people I "meet") | |||

The last time I attended the clinic based in Portlaoise hospital the nurse told me that the increase of Stds has increased dramatically. She also mentioned that I was the only one attending that evenings clinic that was not presenting with symptoms. " It's ridiculous that more people don't get tested regularly. In most cases an STI can be quickly and effectively treated, but if someone isn't even bothering to get themselves checked, they'll just keep passing on the infection and possibly even reinfecting repeat partners. For those afraid to attend clinics or who don't have a clinic nearby, your local GP will also complete tests in complete confidentiality! There's no excuse! | |||

Even worse when accused person doesn't have it - there's literally no way to prove it and when they try to deny it - they're just looked upon at as biggest lying scumbags. "I only had my first test after I turned 40 (before I started swinging). I had just started dating again after 15 years and was booking my smear test with my GP and thought fuck it, I'll get screened too and make sure everything is OK. It was, and I've scheduled regular appointments since. She laughed at me last time because when she asked how many partners I'd had since my last test, I realised I'd only had sex on two occasions since my last one, and both times were with my long-term fwb But she also knows there have been times where I might have had sex with 3 or 4 different partners aside from him within a 6 month period. I have to admit, my GP is excellent. She's completely non-judgmental, really knows her stuff and offers excellent advice, and some of my conversations with her have really made me think about how idiotic some of our approaches to sex, and particularly what we assume is 'safe sex' really are.
Condoms don't prevent the spread of infection. Getting tested and making sure you haven't got one does. | |||

"Well all I know is I attend like clock work every six month's and every time the nurse's say that they wished people took that approach rather than waiting for symptoms. | |||

You're only safe and clear the day of your test. Like the not, good only for that day. Some things show up after 3 months and appear after your 'clear' test. | |||

" I always insist on checking for results of any medical test, no guarantee they didn't lose your sample or your results or neglect to relay a test result that requires treatment. | |||

People assume that because they always use protection that they are protected and don't bother getting tested. Condoms only reduce risk. They don't fully protect. Skin on skin contact happens anyway, just not internally, and most guys will slap on a condom with the same fingers they've just had inside someone's foof during foreplay... Pointless! "Hi all, HLB here i am a health care professional sand I’m a big advocate for safe sex and watching our sexual health. Often giving out to people I see playing unsafe on here (I know their choice ...... but after 13 years in the sites we’ve been to a few parties in which we witnessed no one using condoms). Firstly nothing against the people who follow this practice but we all know there are a lot on here who don’t use condoms at all. This in my opinion is very unsafe for everyone they meet afterwards who try play safe. We all know there are condoms, dental dams etc around. In addition getting vaccinated against hep A and B when sexually active is advisable. Also for the risk of HIV there is the drug PREP which can be taken. The issue for HIV is the people who don’t know they have the disease. Anyone who has been diagnosed and is receiving treatment generally has a viral load of less than 90% after 2 months of treatment. A low or undetectable viral load means the disease is not transmitted to another person. Just a few little tips for anyone who may be feeling a bit overwhelmed after reading this forum thread x" I forgot to add a lot on here think a lot of these diseases are passed around by the bi/ gay male community. "This is very serious and i am taking a big risk here that i will be ridiculed but it has to be said... More than 1 person has come to us in confidence saying that over the last number of weeks they have picked up a very nasty STI. I would urge anyone who has been active meeting on fab to do what we have done and get tested. We were clear but others have not been so lucky. Also people need to remember it can be picked up from oral very easily and most importantly it is silent and most people wont have symtoms.." I haven't been very active for the past 10 months.
