"Just for anyone who didn’t hear on the news, update your app it was hacked into yesterday xx "
Not really true, an Israeli company created a way of comprising the WhatsApp security through a missed call leaving malware on the device, not every app was hacked.
If you haven't updated your app in the last few days I suggest you do so to install the patch, this hack only affects phones running a previous version of WhatsApp.
Facebook are end to end encrypting their messenger app and there will be plans to merge the apps architecture into its other platforms including Facebook and Instagram so I suggest regularly updating these to ensure the same exploit is avoided |

You can’t merge them if they are e2e encrypted. That’s not how encryption works. And this was specific to WhatsApp and the method employed.
Use signal anyway if you are worried about it. That’s the daddy of encrypted apps
Or if you are that worried about it ditch the smart phone altogether |

They are going to be merging the architecture of the app, that's what I've been told plus that will not affect the e2e? For example you draw the plans for the a house and build it, you use the same plans and build the another house, two different houses but the plan is the same, now I get they won't carbon copy it like for like with their apps.

"So lim there was an automatic update 2 days ago would you suggest updating like they said on the news or are we safe enough? "
Check to see if an update is available to be sure, mine is running the latest version that I updated 3 days ago and there's no other patch available so I'm assuming I'm safe as safe as one can be on any Internet connected app |

Facebook is going to merge them, which means their end to end encryption has a master key to unlock them.
But whatsapp does not encrypt everything anyway, how can they encrypt a photo, send it to the server and resize it to optimize it for transport on the server after its been encrypted. Thats not how end to end encryption works, once it leaves your device the server cant access it.
Clearly they are doing some encryption, and maybe its end to end, but it 100% is not supporting the most secure pgp protocol, it couldnt be. |

Quite a few things wrong here. First of all PGP is not the most secure protocol anymore. Secondly there is no “master” key to unlock anything, only public and private keys. Thirdly end to end encryption means exactly that. It may travel through a server but it is unrecoverable data. Meta data will be recoverable but not the content of the message.
There is nothing new on this “hack” other than the delivery method. The payload, Pegasus, has been around for a while at nation state/APT level. |

Firstly I never said that pgp was the most secure I said it didnt even meet pgp stndards.
Answer me this, when images and videos go viral, and whatsapp blocks the spread of them, like the shooting in newzealand, or slane girl... How does whatsapp block the photo if its encrypted end to end?
How can the server see it and block it and stop its spread? hmm? |

100% not supporting the most secure PGP protocol Sounds pretty much like you were saying it’s the most secure (which it isn’t!)
Because each image has a hash value so the server still doesn’t “see the message contents” but rather the meta data and whilst not that difficult to change it’s not trivial to the non technical person. Once you have that value the you can block messages based on that, almost the same as most anti virus applications use. Hmmm? |

They would be sorely disappointed if they hacked my profile, nothing but work shit on it and nothing that would be of any use to anyone apart from people I work with |

Each individual whatsapp wasn’t hacked if you received a WhatsApp call from +21950718 Niger number get rid of your phone as they will have installed a Trojan weather you answer or not.
But as OP said update to be safe. |

There is no evidence to suggest it is from a Niger number. It can come from any locale.
Although updating the application is easily the best advice on this thread. |
