As a person who works in catering: vegans, pescatarians, gluten intolerant people drive me insane... only when they fail to express their dietary preferences and allergies way ahead then complain about the wait.

My pet hate is when you have a hotplate and people waiting in line using fingers to take chips etc and eat them out of the container. Some nutter complaint to my boss. When I removed the chips and put them in the bin.He even had the nerve to say I knew nothing about food hygiene etc. And he had the right to try food before he brought it. I even got a warning. I walked away from the job a few days later

Unlike celiac disease, both gluten sensitivity and gluten intolerance do not cause damage to the lining of the small intestine. The body does, however, identify gluten as a foreign invader which triggers the launch of an immune response.

In restaurants when you have just taken a mouthful of food and this is the moment when a member of staff decide now is the best time to ask if everything is alright for you

Those people who, no matter what is on the menu, want something else.

Why not fuck off to another restaurant then?

Im vegan and always try to find online menu first before book the table or just make a call and ask. These days there are many restaurants to choose where and what do you want to eat.

I was about to start my soup in a restaurant one day and dropped the spoon on the floor. Quick as a flash a waiter appeared with a new spoon. I asked how he managed to get the spoon so quickly. He explained that all the waiters carry a spare one to improve efficiency. He explained that the new manager was obsessed with time saving and efficiency and opened his jacket to reveal a string coming out of the top of his trousers. The string, he said, was attached to his penis so that when he went to the toilet for a pee he just needed to open the zip and pull out his knob with the string, meaning that since he hadn't touched it he wouldn't need to wash his hands, thereby saving precious minutes. The manager was a genius, he reckoned. I could see a flaw in the plan though and asked him how he got his penis back in as he couldn't push it in with the string...

.

"Well" says he, "that spare soup spoon sure is handy"

First off before we get lynched by the militant vegans - we have no problem with peoples life choices, particularly around health. But we really hate preachy vegans who tell us how bad our rare steaks are for us....we have 2 vegan friends and both never shut up about veganism. We sometimes hope they ch*ke on their plant based sausage.

How do you know when someone is vegan?

Oh they'll fucking tell you!

This thread has quickly turned into a Vegan hate rant. Interesting how it provokes such a strong reaction from people.

I’m vegan but certainly don’t go on about it and find most places easily accommodate me.

As we said, we don't mind what people's choices are with regards their diets etc. We admire the discipline it takes to maintain clean diets. All we were doing is joining in the thread by sharing what annoys us about eating in company which for us it's preachy vegans.

Thats my point, you cannot seperate the 2 y saying "jumping on the bandwagon" when serving or working in the industry as it has an effect be it from being a coeliac or being intolerant...

Imo going gluten free as a diet/fad is pointless.

Is it? A trend? Trust me being a coeliac is no trend it is life changing,

But as I've previously said the gluten free diet by choice is just stupid and bloody expensive!

But people use it as a diet or a healthy eating option ut it is certainly not a choice if you are coeliac, then its a necessity

People eating with their mouth open!!

Once you put food in your mouth, close your lips, chew correctly and swallow.

Until your mouth is empty, do NOT open your lips again!

Drives me feckin crazy
