With accommodation? House apartment, bungalow or 2 story. What's your preference? I find some smaller town areas have very little places to rent but then you have some people charging astronomical rent prices. |

The rental market is gone to the dogs in recent years, there is no legislation to stop people charging what they want for what can only be described as substandard living conditions. |

Renting is dead money. If you can get on the ladder and need to struggle on till you get ahead do it. Renting will lead you down a road that is hard to recover from. |

"Mortgage is cheaper but repairs not so cheap"
You pay for your own house
Its your investment. Of course maintenance isn't cheap but you can do repairs slowly as your budget will allow you. |

While I'd love to own my own place, I'm happy enough renting for the time being.
I have a great apartment in a great location for a very reasonable rate right now.
Some people will say that rent is dead money and they may have a point, but I'll take renting over committing myself to a 30-40 year long debt that makes me totally dependent on having constant employment, and may even mean being forced to work a job I hate just so I can pay the debt.
I love the fact that there is nothing in my life that I can't walk away from at any time if I ever seek something different out of life. |

And after all that, you could have 90% of it paid back and could still lose everything.
My biggest problem with mortgages is that people get offered a shit deal and they're over the moon to have got it.
People go in jumping over hoops practically begging for a mortgage when it's the banks that should be begging people to take them.
When will people realize that the bank needs to loan out money to survive.
Start demanding better deals. |

Rents are only so high because the house market is saturated as prices have risen and a lot of people who bought during the boom to rent now want out as they cash in before the next crash recession is a tool to scare people save and scrape and way for the rich to buy cheap so they can double down and get richer there is no ladder just economic bubble after economic bubble.. |

Renting is like throwing your money away. Before we bought we were paying twice what we are now in rent it's madness. I know its a long term commitment to pay a mortgage but you always need somewhere to live so why not put the money into your own future rather than someone else's!! |

You can sell the bloddy house and get your money out anytime,
Your morgage doesn't rise with inflation, your rent does. |

I bought my house without a mortgage and doing it up now bit by bit whenever my budget allows it. New roof is done, new windows on the way, okay some corners will still look pretty shabby but hopefully by the end of next year it's more or less done.
No rent, no mortgage, no headache. |

True. Remember also its your investment. You can always sell the house and buy a new one or sell then pay astronomic amounts for a rent.
Everybody has a choice.
Single men will think like you do, for couples especially with young kids its an investment. Actually mortgage rate is twice lower than payment for rent.
It is not easy decision but if you have some money better to invest them somewhere, eg buying a house instead of keeping them on the saving account. Or you can do both. All depends what are you doing, how much money do you spend for expenses and how much you left for saving acc.
Good luck anyway! |

People always need somewhere to live....so your options are live with parents if they are still ok with you to do that...that may often only suit single people and not families...you can buy a house with a mortgage but so many are unable to get mortgages now....renting is gone crazy with increased rents and the knock on effect of being unable to save for a deposit for an actual mortgage...the last option is going on a local authority list but again thays dependent on availability and meeting certain income criteria...The system is messy across all those options.Supply and demand ultimately dictates the prices of everything. What I find ridiculous also is that the 2nd time buyer has to find 20% of a deposit so those who bought in the celtic tiger but now want to move into something different possibly due to change in family size circumstances, work location etc...are effectively unable to find that large sum of money eg.a house of 300k would require 60k of a deposit. thats ridiculous. The Government have done little or nothing to help people. The interesr rates being charged by banks are ridiculous vs most of the rest of europe. You can a mortgage at 1.2% fixed in Swiztherland!! |

The rent in Dublin is too much, Single renters are taking up all the family homes sharing rooms.
The council needs to allow someone to build up tall in the city, single apartments with a seperate bedroom. And none of them be sold but be rent controlled instead.
They need 3 different levels, low, medium and high earners in the building.
No subletting.
The benefits tot he city would be enormous. More money in peoples pockets, less traffic, the building owner still making a mint, but people living happier lives, free up a lot of family homes..
Ethical renting. |

"I know its a long term commitment to pay a mortgageI think alot look upon it as that. "Oh I cant do alot of stuff In the here and now as I have a mortgage to pay off". "
Whether you're paying off a mortgage or paying rent, it's still an ongoing financial commitment. At least with a mortgage, there's an end date for the payments. |

Its a catch 22 situation with the money. You'll probably pay double the monthly mortgage payment in rent. Leaving you less money to save for a house.
I think a lot of people, single or not, are not looking towards their future, or can't afford to.
Its about what you want most, rather than what you want now. Whatever that is, should be the goal. |

Yeah well, we've learned nothing from the crash, nobody was held responsible, no legislation has been brought in to avoid the same thing happening again, FF politics was continued by FG looking after themselves and their cronies. That's why we're steering towards the next cliff with generations not being able to buy their own home, rents spiraling, people still being evicted from their homes.... where and when does it end? Yet no hope that people won't vote for the same gangsters again... |

Exactly the reason why I'm hoping to be out of this kip of a country in the next couple of years.
If I was ever to but a house it wouldn't be in this shithole. |

Fully agree and why I'm strongly considering a SF vote next time, just to see what they might do and to give FF/FG a kick in the arse for pursuing the same shite, lining their own pockets crap! |
