I'm ambivalent about seeing 'professional seeks' on profiles. Makes no difference to me what anyone does for a living, I don't need to check anyone's bank balance or know what kind of car they drive. I couldn't give a toss if you shop in Sainsburys or Aldi, or if your lingerie came from Victoria's Secret or Primark.
So I just wondered if these things matter to you? Aside from those who have a stated uniform fetish, does someones job make them more or less attractive to you? |

That's actually a very valid point... Arranging to meet when working alternating hours could be a factor, so yes, I can see where that might have an impact  |

What do they mean by it? Think it maybe understood to be different things to different people.
I'd see it as "white-collar, executive, non-manual worker. Maybe as in professional qualification relating to a certain level of academic study. Im guessing though as I've not had anyone who uses it describe it to me on here. |

Well "I'm a professional" usually indicates to me that they are saying they are in a well paid job

I don't care what you do for a living, what appeals to me if I'm attracted enough to want to meet that person....
And if that person feels the need to big themself up by saying " I'm Professional" makes me think they feel the average hard working person is below them, or they use "I'm professional" to try and make themself seem more attractive than they are.....

Objectively... Specifically in regard to sex, race can be about physical features someone may or may not find attractive. If someone is primarily attracted to Asians I'm not going to accuse them of being racist for not fancying me.
Women not wanting to meet guys who have met other guys... Well that's self-explanatory as its absolutely a sexual issue... However misguided.
Someone's job rarely has any bearing on attraction. For those with a uniform fetish, it's probably not even necessary for the person to actually be in that profession... A costume may do the job just as effectively (input from uniform lovers needed to clarify on this issue!!).
As someone previously pointed out, awkward working hours might make meeting more difficult, and may influence someone's decision... But even top surgeons don't always work 9-5
I'm yet to hear a really compelling reason. |

Ive always understood "professional" to be "polite" code for middle class. For the record, I'm not agreeing with that and it's not an avenue Im pursuing! But I think its as legitimate an area of discrimination as race or sexuality... So Im just curious as to why others think differently. |

Personally I do call myself a professional.
In my eyes people who call themselves professional value their work and career over social events be it friends, family or relationships.
As a few people stated previously it's a polite code for "middle class". Yes and no.
Professionals tend to be very ambitious and dutiful when it comes to the work they're doing so naturally they will climb the ladder of their careers. With higher positions they will have higher incomes.
With higher positions also comes a lot more responsibility and longer working hours which results in a depleting social life and loss of relationships and friendships over time.
Some people get their joy and happiness from family bonds, others from a job well done.
Calling yourself a professional to me only indicates that that person isn't interested in socially interacting with new people and all conversations with them will be kept to a bare minimum. |

FFS! Professional here is Penneys and M&S Food Hall. Well, ok, not Penneys but I suspect the majority of Fab Ireland professionals shop on Grafton Street, or, heaven forbid, Kildare Village. I know that any time I've been there, it's like I've been dropped in the middle of D4 and I have to cover my mouth from retching/laughing
