The erotic imagination is a powerful thing...and TV/TS women are women.

It really very simple.

Sexuality is a lot more that clicking a box on fab.

What they are and who they are can change.

Or maybe they just couldnt give a shit what someone browsing their profile thinks.

This.

Could be that now they are in straight mode. My bi-curious level fluctuates, I am more straight than curious right now, so I am 'straight'.

When that level increases, I change it to 'bi-curious'. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

"The erotic imagination is a powerful thing...and TV/TS women are women."

No, they are not. TV is a man that wears women’s clothing.

Trans men / women have a mental illness, I say this not as a put down but as a fact. They need help.

Why should I accept a trans woman as a woman, when he couldn’t accept himself as a man? I have to do what he couldn’t?

I was happy to ignore, live and let live as they want but now that country’s are passing laws that put you in jail for “misgendering” a person and they teach that it’s normal in primary schools, I can’t accept it.

Religion and lifestyle, do as you will but don’t force it down my throat or expect me to take it as truth.

it bothers you enough for you to state you're confused about it and start a thread about it.

I'm confused as to why people do things like that but then in the next breath say it doesn't bother them.

I can't view your profile as you have me blocked, but as far as I can remember you're in your early 30s. So if you're blessed with children does this mean if one of them was gay/bi you would be of the same opinion.???? For a couple who swing I would have thought you'd be more open minded. Just think if people thought because you like having sex with multiple partners, and not only have sex with your chosen partner that you had a "mental illness". Because some people do. Being born in the wrong body not a mental illness.

Sexuality and gender are two very different things.

Saying you are gay, bi or whatever is a sexual preference.

Being a biological man and not being able to accept this is completely different.

Sexuality is a spectrum but gender is binary - even in the very small number who are born with a genital defect they generally identify as one or the other.

A person with anorexia says I’m fat, doctors say you are clearly not fat, we can help you see this.

A schizophrenic says the cat is trying to kill me, doctors say the cat clearly isn’t trying to kill you, we can help you see this.

A man, with a penis says I’m a woman, doctors say, cool, we will make everyone call you Betty and if they don’t we will say they are a nazi!

Nobody is saying trans is in any way the same as sexuality.

UCLA completed a study that shows that trans people try to kill themselves at a rate of up to 40-50%.

That's 50% in the depths of Russia where it's illegal, and 50% in San Francisco where being trans is celebrated. This is clear proof that the rate has nothing to do with other people accepting them. The only suicide rates have been this high in a demographic is when Jews were killing themselves under Nazi rule.

Until very recently it was called body dismorphic disorder, and there was help.

If you can change your gender back and forth, can you change your race? There are days I feel 80, and days I feel 25, can I change my age because I feel a certain way in my body?

I have zero problem with anyone living the way they want but when you start to see laws stating you can be punished for calling a man Sir, because he has chosen to be a woman that day then I have issues.

If you want to accept the world as it is and not think for yourself you be happy.

I actually care, I care about people being abandoned by the system because it's easier than dealing with a difficult and unpopular subject. If you had bothered to read the study, or even my full comment you would see that it's not the perception of others that is causing such depression in the trans community.

I think the words, why care come to mind. Labels only serve a very minimal purpose.

I often wonder why people get fixated on such trivial things but then I remember humans can be silly creatures.

And here we have the usual reaction of the liberals. When they can't show evidence or an elegant counter argument, they lower themselves to personal insults. I've been polite in my opinions, I've stated academic study that you are welcome to read and I haven't insulted anyone.

If you have a point to make that counters mine, make it in an intelligent fashion, like an adult. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion doesn't make them a bad person, this is a highly controversial subject and if you truly see yourself as an advocate of your opinion then perhaps reevaluate how you come across to those undecided.

I'll leave the discussion now that you have thrown manners out the window.

Thanks for a polite reply!

The study proves an underlying issue, and yes, anyone who tries to kill themselves has a mental illness so perhaps 22 year olds have a higher susceptibility to mental illness.

Mental illness has a stigma, but most people will suffer from it at some point in their lives. It's not said as an insult by any means.

My problem is that it's becoming fashionable to be calling yourself trans, it's also being abused. What was once a serious thing that was treated, and sometimes that treatment was a gender reassignment other times it was just counselling. Now there is no counselling as it's being called a "normal" thing and suicide rates are rocketing because where before it was said, "Let's talk about this" and the person was given proper support by a professional, they are now being left to deal with it themselves. It's not normal, by definition. I'm not saying it's wrong, or that they are bad people but a man thinking he was born in the wrong body simply isn't normal.

Giving a 9 year old child puberty blockers because he or she is "trans" is wrong.

A demographic being susceptable to mental illness is not the same as that demographic itsself being a mental illness.

Its not something I am an expert on and I dont have the best grasp or understanding of the whole trans world, I just dont think making statements and calling them facts when most institutions and professinals in mental health have put out contarty findings is the best way to discuss something.

"UCLA completed a study that shows that trans people try to kill themselves at a rate of up to 40-50%.

Browsed the study dont see a reference to trans people being mentally ill.

20 - 24 year old men in Ireland have a much higher rate of suacide than any of their other peer groups.

Is being a 22 year old man a mental illness too?

"

I don't claim to be an expert myself but last year I raised several hundred pounds for a trans support group and I had my eyes opened.

I'd like to try and find common ground, can we agree that puberty blockers for "trans" children is a bad idea?

This from the American Psyhcological Association

A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability. Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences may lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), people who experience intense, persistent gender incongruence can be given the diagnosis of "gender dysphoria." Some contend that the diagnosis inappropriately pathologizes gender noncongruence and should be eliminated. Others argue that it is essential to retain the diagnosis to ensure access to care. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is under revision and there may be changes to its current classification of intense persistent gender incongruence as "gender identity disorder."

is that good enough for you?

heres the link to their site to go educate yourself.

https://www.apa.org/topics/lgbt/transgender

And one from the NHS too

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gender-dysphoria/

if you read this information you will see that the name Gender Dysphoria hasn't changed but it does have many faces. as you put it 'it's becoming fashionable...or as the NHS recognises there has been an increase in diagnosis, because of raised awareness, don't you think that's a good thing?

I do, as awareness leads to acceptance and less anxiety and discomfort and confusion, which in turn cuts down on the number of suicides, which you point out earlier is 40-50% , now that's a very good thing.

you calling someone mentally ill and not normal is not a healthy outlook for people who are already feeling bad about themselves.

I think it probably is a bad idea because of the negitive side effects alright.

As for transgender youth I have no idea what age is the right age to address and begin any type of treatments etc....

I'm sorry if I'm getting this wrong, but you're trying to turn this around now. In your first comment you stated that trans people have mental illness and needed help. Now you're saying you've raised money for a trans support group. Compassion goes a long way. Further than money.

" can we agree that puberty blockers for "trans" children is a bad idea?"

why?

Surely this is a good thing? it is safe and it gives them time to think about what they want, with proper counselling, and eases their anxiety about puberty, which is a very real fear for some.

Unfortunately it can cause severe problems that last for the rest of their lives, I respect your opinion even if I disagree with you.

"

do you know what the negative side effects are?

heres some info from California Healthline

Full-blown puberty is irreversible, but for transgender children, it’s no longer inevitable.

By taking a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, secretion of the sex hormones can be stopped and the onset of puberty suppressed, so that the body does not develop secondary sex characteristics.

This has been done safely for decades to suppress sex hormones in children who develop too early, a condition known as precocious puberty.

Suppressors have also been used to treat endometriosis, uterine fibroids and prostate cancer.

It was only in 2008 that the Endocrine Society approved puberty suppressors as a treatment for transgender adolescents as young as 12 years old. The Society, with members in more than 100 countries, has since declared that the intervention appears to be safe and effective.

In 2011 the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), also issued Standards of Care for the treatment of patients with gender dysphoria, which include puberty suppression.

If the suppressors are halted, puberty resumes as if there had been no treatment.

heres another very good document

https://www.impactprogram.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Kuper-2014-Puberty-Blockers-Pamphlet.pdf

cant see a lot of permanent side effects....

Can you tell me what these severe problems are that last forever?

you do realise these are suppresants that are given to kids who start puberty too young, and for treatment of cancer? once taken off the blockers then puberty starts , as normal.

I think that a man who thinks he has been born in the wrong body has a mental illness and needs counselling.

I have a lot of compassion for these people, which is why we raise money for the support groups. I'm by no means an expert, but it's a subject I know quite a lot about and have trans friends, one of which agrees with my view and one who doesn't.

Saying it's fine, you don't need help because there is nothing unusual about this, it's "normal" stops people asking for help, before long it becomes too late.

The same goes for normalising depression, if we did this and said it's normal to feel worthless people would not seek help.

I can only go by my own experiences and do what I feel is right. I respect your opinion but I expect the same respect from you.

WHAT!!

surely by saying to someone that they are NOT abnormal is a good thing!! it follows that they willbe able to talk about it, and get help.

How does it stop them from asking for help?

'Proper' girly ts's look like girls/woman and not like men, that's why it turns some men on, but you would find the men who like ts's don't & would not go with men cause the man look does nothing for them, that's why the same men who like ts's are not gay. Tv's are of course different than proper girly ts's, tv's have the manly look and that does nothing for the straight man also.

"The erotic imagination is a powerful thing...and TV/TS women are women.

"

For me it doesn't matter. If someone looks, acts, and presents themselves as a woman, and wishes to be refered to as a woman, I'm just going to call her a woman. Not because I don't understand science, but simply because I don't like to think I can be unsmpathetic. I understand that trans people try very hard to live as the opposite sex. Calling them "he" and "Him, while they are dressed up as a woman, acting like a woman, talking like a woman, etc, would just be kinda mean, and I try not to be mean. It really doesn't hurt you to call someone a "she" even if they are technically not, does it?

Not at all, and I do use preferred pronouns when asked but sometimes it’s hard to tell! A trans person does not have to present as their chosen sex however.

My issue, is the abuse of calling yourself trans and the many other issues. A trans woman nearly killed a “real” woman in an MMA fight.
