Age restrictions

I’ve lately been considering broadening my age restrictions because I’ve met some lovely people at socials that couldn’t message me because they were either just too old/young. What I’m wondering is do people find this happens a lot? Or am I better off sticking with what I have on my profile and just enjoy when I come across a surprise at a social?

If you find you come across this issue regularly then it might be time to extend the age gaps, but at the same time it's all about how comfortable you would be to get contact from people of those ages.

I like to keep mine relatively open as Im still not 100% what my age limit would be, I just know that anyone over 60 isn't for me

Good answer from someone who’s profile is one of the ones that makes me question my restrictions. Lol

We have a preference stated on our profile, but don't block others from messaging us. It would be unusual for us to consider meeting someone a lot older/younger than the preferred range, depends entirely on the person themselves though.

When I was actively meeting I had strict age preferences. But I did meet people at Socials for whom I subsequently ignored those preferences to meet again. I briefly adjusted my age limits, but quickly switched them back again after a flood of mail from men. I'd rather run into the odd exception to the rule at a social event where I know right away that we click, than deal with a slew of mail from men who aren't really what I'm looking for in the vague hope of finding one or two who might.

Yeah. This is what would worry me about changing it.

A lot of restrictions fall to the wayside after meeting at socials

I've never really understood how someone could decide that 46 was out while 45 was in but maybe it does limit the spam. That said, once you are looking at all on here the net should be spread wide.....

Now and then I take that filter off only to be bombarded by older than my preference sleazy gents even tho I made it clear in my profile that my age preference is quite strict. Most of them just send the sleazy messages for the sake of sending them. And it's really sad as I have bet some fantastic people at the socials...

You know all those women who complain about getting too much mail to read and put up status messages about having to bulk delete? Those. Those are the ones who can't decide 46 is too old but 45 is OK. They are the ones who's profiles say they will meet anyone between the ages of 18 and 99. For the realists among us who don't have the time and don't want to pick through hundreds of messages to find a few nuggets of gold, we have a little think about what it is we actually like in a man, an approximate age, maybe a physical build or height, whether he smokes, whether he accommodates, and build our filters (both active and secondary ones) around that. Yes, maybe we might miss out on one or two rough diamonds because of it, but we might run into them at a social anyway. Personally, for me, filters just make Fab more manageable

If you knocked off the age filter, then friended them, I think ye might be able to chat away afterwards. Not 100% sure but I think that worked for me at one stage.

Go for 18-99 like most of the men here. They've all bases covered

Even if you take your filters off you can still set your age range and if someone messages you then they get a warning that they may not get a reply.

But if they're not interested in under 35 why would you want to say hi? Would you not prefer to say hi to people you are mutually compatible with?

I have age brackets on my profile but don’t block people of any age messaging me. You just never know.

I met a 21 yr old a while back that knocked my socks off and I’m glad I didn’t have blocks in place or I would have missed out on that amazing experience.

Open them up.. you never know.

Age is just a number. Some people in their 50s are in better shape than those in their 20s

I'm 47 (true age) and regard myself very fit for it.

I've seen a few profiles, read them even the veries and pics, clicked to send message and not allowed.

Age restriction 45.

ohh you not serious ?

Start again.

There is such a great mix of people out there of all ages I dont see any point in restricting myself.

For the females and couples it's just another way of filtering, nothing stopping us messaging someone outside our specified range that we like the look of

Sometimes age restrictions have a very valid reason. I don't meet anyone more than 15 years younger than me with the intention of playing (I do meet them socially). Why? Because I come from a large, extended family and wouldn't even know the names of most of my various cousins' kids, never mind what they look like... Last thing I want to do is have a 'you've never met my eldest, Tom, before, have you?' situation at some uncle's funeral . As for upper limits... historically, I've simply rarely been physically attracted to anyone my own age or older. I'm just not wired that way, and can't help that. Older guys forcing the issue with 'older the fiddle' messages or arguing that they're just as fit, young at heart and have just as much stamina as any 30 year old and that I don't know what I'm missing out on, really don't help the situation.... Think of trying to force a toddler to eat something they don't like.... Yeah... That's my face. You can't force attraction folks and that's why we have preferences

Depends on what you're on Fab for

For a woman here looking for a match to meet amidst 300 mails, filters & age restrictions make sense. For a man here who might get 2 to 12 messages a day, the same dilemma doesn't exist

For me, I love the social aspect and chatting to people so I try not restrict anybody ...but everyone to their own

I have the mail filter set on mine to stop people below the range messaging. Every now and again I'll take it off thinking I'm missing out. Doesn't take long before I get a swift reminder of why I set it in first place. I'm a gluten for punishment.

Can be kinda frustrating when I fall outside someone's age limits by a year or two, as I like to think I look younger than my age, but that's life.
