"Have you been to the doctor to make sure it is heart palpatations?"
Ah yeah. Been getting them for years so went and got all the tests done and everything is fine. The doctors have assured me they're benign but sometimes that bit of doubt creeps in and causes a little anxiety.
Just wondering does anyone on here get them and how do they affect others. |

Even after giving up smoking I still got them at the same rate but I accept that they are just going to be part of my life and try my best to get on with them. |

Sorry i was just checking,i do suffer with them have done for years. All you can do is cut down on drinking caffeine and alcohol if you smoke they advise you to stop, regular exercise even if its just a stroll in the evening or morning and cut down on stress. I know easier said than done |

If you've had a thorough heart check and your doc says you're OK, it's very likely no issues showed up during the examination. If you're still concerned, then get either a more intensive check, or a second opinion. Stay as fit as you can, and make sure your diet is very healthy. And should you take Viagra, be sure it's on prescription from your doc. |

Yeah you could easily get in a vicious cycle of palpitations causing stress causing more palpitations and so on.
I've cut way down on my alcohol consumption and I've been taking magnesium supplements which have helped a bit. I don't get them as regularly but still get them quite frequent.
Some days they can really rock you. |

Yeah I've been told they're nothing to worry about so I'm generally pretty ok with experiencing them but they can catch you off guard sometimes.
I only started the thread out of curiosity because I don't know anyone who experiences them so I'm just curious how others deal with them.
I went through a lot of anxiety for years over them but have now learned to accept them and trust the doctors. |

Hate waking in the middle of the night with them
Living alone, the fear you are about to die |

Oh I've been there.
As much as I know they're benign, that voice in the back of your head can be a fecker at night when you're alone |

Had a few episodes over the years, first time was the nastiest and was a result of caffeine overconsumption and overdoing it with boot camp after long break and a very toxic work environment, second time few years later due stresses of becoming young parents with full time jobs.... cut out caffeine completely ( by the way that includes green tea) and other energy drinks, quit smoking, frequently do guided meditation, found a job that I like, regularly hit the gym and also take valerian root tea during times of increased stress, still get an occasional heartbeat skip but no palpitations for over 2 years. Generally with palpitations our bodies are trying to tell us that we are not on the right track and need to implement lifestyle changes |

A palpitation is just an awareness of heartbeat. As opposed to an actual irregular heartbeat. A lot of it could be in your head. You need to lose the fear. If the checkup gave an all clear look to low level cardio to keep everything flowing right, work up to more rigorous stuff. Good luck and be well. |

True, but there's a reason a person would become aware of the heartbeat. For me I mostly get extra beats or skipped beats but on occasion I can get a fluttering sensation where I have no pulse for a couple of seconds and then a thud when the heart resets itself.
Apparently it's common and most people get them but just don't notice it. |

It must be a good sign though, if you've had these pains for months with no cardiac episodes. Hope they figure it out and you get some relief. |

"I recently had an operation to stop mine....make sure with doctor that you dont have svt"
Ah yeah it's not SVT, it's just general ectopic beats.
As I said in a previous post, I'm ok with them most of the time. This wasn't meant to be a 'worry' thread.
I was just curious how others get on with them as they can be very annoying at times.
Hope your operation was a success. |
