As we all run around like mad yolks trying to get organised for Christmas just spare a thought for those who are alone over the festive season ,

And especially for those who will struggle to make ends meet or have no home to go to!

Life's good and most of us don't realise it including myself at times , so be thankful and have a safe and happy Christmas

Always on our minds at Christmas. Can be a very sad and tough time for so many people trying to keep up with the rat race.

Exactly !! And all for what?

Sometimes you just have to take stock of all that's good in your life instead of always wanting more !

Yeah when christian spirit is at its highest, it can be hard on your own.

Stay strong, and if youre not religious just remember, its just another lonely day and not a lonely special occasion, that might help.

Think if is only natural as human beings that we always want more but you are very right in what you say we should be very thankful for what we have in our lives that is why I am working my 15th Christmas day I love helping those less fortunate than me merry Christmas and happy New year to one and all x

I am currently in Amsterdam , yesterday night i spontaneously took one of those homeless to the next Burger King for a warm meal and a hot drink . I cannot change his destiny , but to give a moment of compassion to someone less fortunate is not much to ask in my humble opinion

Isn’t that strange dave, I was thinking about this....this morning, parents that cannot afford presents for there children let alone feed them properly.....it doesn’t matter how much money you have we are only one step....mistake away from poverty and it’s one slippery slope trying to work your way back up the ladder....I do hope everybody is ok as I hate to think of people and innocent children going without

That's exactly how it is for so many people , this struggle to show the world that you can keep up with the jonses , but more to the point there's people and families out there tonight in the rain with nowhere to go which really gets to me at this time of year when we should all be safe and cosy instead of worrying about if we've bought enough presents and food

Most of the people don't realize that the real Christmas spirit is about helping others not just siting on the sofa, watching tv and unwrapping presents. Be thankful for everything has been given to you, help others if you have a chance, smile and hug those whom need it, feed them. Of course we cannot change everybody's life but we can give them a bit of our hearts.

OP totally agree with you

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Thoughts and consideration is all well and good but it is just as easy to do something no matter how small it is to you it could be the thing that makes another's christmas. Give something be it a gift, money or your time to someone who needs it. Dont do it to feel good. Do it so someone else does.

. Once there are children involved they willl not be walking the streets at night .. it’s shocking though that at 8am most of the

Families in this situation are thrown out on the streets and let back in At 8pm.. this is so feckin wrong and heartbreaking but thankfully down to the good work of some charities (can’t mention who) it’s made sure they are not out in rain for the day ... our government are burying their heads in the sand . I’ve seen this at first hand and it’s not pleasant to see little ones been told to come back at 8pm

I really don’t like this time of the year. How can people rush around shopping centres laden down with bags and bags of presents and materialistic items knowing that a few metres down the road someone will be begging or starving and homeless. I’ve given what I’d spend on gifts to charity for the last few years and this year I’ve asked anyone who was gonna buy me something, to make that donation instead.

And one bit of advice that was given to me that I will always hold onto is if you do stop and chat with a homeless person don’t stand tall looking down at them , sit down beside them or kneel beside them so you are not trying to be the one with the upper hand . So many people do this and body language says a lot . Nobody should ever be made feel worthless and small ... ok enough said I need to clean bathrooms now xxx

I hear about all these initiatives but see no material changes on the streets and the only people I ever see helping are volunteers.

Some people are sane but in hard times, incredibly easy to improve their situation.

State provided rehab and councilling would help maybe 70% of the remainder and then there would be a minority who really can't be helped - tend to them with a task force providing food, medicine, clothing etc.

Regardless of how many initiatives are implemented, without the infrastructure in place to provide homes for people, government and agencies dealing with this issue are just constantly putting out fires. I would imagine a good chunk of the overall budget is taken up by the voluntary sector, who do a huge amount of the frontline work involved in this particular issue. Some of these organisations are the largest property owners in the country with their current housing portfolios.

There is part of the problem there are over 70 "charities" living off the homeless and those more than volunteers are claiming a salary from tbis crisis. The goverment needs to set up an nation wide authority to provide housing of a suitable nature where its needed. Also to look at afordable housing which used be provided by our county council, private devolopers are not going to provide affordable housing theres no profit in it.

Our towns and cities are not going to succeed with out a labour force that can live near their jobs in retail and hospitialy at affordable rates of rent and even ownership of their own dwellings. Lets not forget that a lot of those who are homeless or couch surfing are hard working family people just need propper accodmation at reasonable rates "

You rush to assume, I hate all extreme opinions left or right. it's the same stupidity in a different direction.

When I spend time in the real world, I don't see any evidence of female oppression in this country, I see healthy, happy, confident women living prosperous lives under their own direction for the most part. You need to be disconnected and naive to think that women are oppressed. Go to somewhere with a real patriarchal culture and compare and contrast.

You're style of debate is juvenile word twisting over making substantive points.

Your actually just chosing to ignore any points at all that I make and concentrating on my debate style, and making comments and assumptions about both my awareness level and my motivations for my comments.

I dont think I twisted words at all but I do apologise if I have misinterpited something that you have said. I cant see where I did though.

"Does anyone know what the government are actually doing about homelessness?

There is a budget...where is it being spent?. Very good question

I normally find we are different sides of debates but this is 100% spot on

I'm a liberal in the true sense...we share the same traits I'm sure but I'm better at seeing the light

You are in a very naive stage. Maybe you believe what you say, maybe you're trying to garner positive attention.

Ha ha there is that familiar pretentious attitude.

Where you see naiveity I see a balanced view of the real world and where you have seen the light I see someone spending too much time online reading extreme views from closed minded peopled instead of spending time in the real world talking to more balanced complexed people.

Or ya know Im just spouting shite in the hope some woman will see my nice guy attitude and give me a pity ride, that was your second theory right?

You didn't make any point? - you just called me pretentious and assumed i'm the typical holder of extreme views.

I'm hoping you'll make some original points and stop parroting the good liberal fanboy playbook.

I think you are influanced by extreme views, rather than homding them yourself, because you seem to view the world in a very confrontational way, maybe I am wrong. Such is the world of internet forums it doesnt always alow for a more nuanced debate.

But there seems to be little room for any actual debate when you view someone with alternate views to yours as naive and a sheep of some greater idiology.

I assure you i'm very open minded and not aligned to any ideology, i simply call out BS from every side.

I'd love to have a more positive conversation, with loads of nuance and complexity reflective of actual life.
