Just watching Tracy live in Wembley 1988. Sang two songs and all of a sudden she was number 1.

It took the crowd a few minutes to get with her music. We don't get any surprises like this anymore.

I'm 43 and outside of Nirvana and Guns N Roses this is the one album that still stands the test of time.

It has some serious nostalgia associated with the first album.

Simple explanation...we will never see many real musicians again. Bands such as the Eagles etc..real music

I actually didn't like them much but a girl I was with at the time absolutely loved them.

Seen them live at RDS and they blew my mind how good they were live.

Tracy Chapman is not on social media and recently sued Nicki Minaj for plagiarism. Can you believe that.

Her first album is her best in my opinion. I have them all in and ice seen her live a number of times in Ireland.

The Promise (which she rarely sings live) is unreal. Listen to the lyrics.

She does a song “The Promise” which took me a while to get on the guitar but it’s my favourite Tracy Chapman song

Music has changed so much now. There is so many platforms to hear it,its especially written and targetted now at certain groups wheras before the bands choose the songs and played them,if you liked it then great if you didnt then they didnt care.Nowadays its image and a totally different type of music than years ago.Personally Id listen to Queen all day but fast Car is an incredible song and the story within the song is great too.I just wonder what songs the kids of today will reminisce about in years to come!

As if there is any doubt as to todays shit...this is presently number 1 in ireland and this is the first verse.

Thought I'd end up with Sean

But he wasn't a match

Wrote some songs about Ricky

Now I listen and laugh

Even almost got married

And for Pete, I'm so thankful

Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm

'Cause he was an angel

I mean come on.....awful shite.

Or perhaps it's just that the songs of our formative years strike a chord with us always?

Although I was at the Mandela concert and can't remember a single performance other than Chapman...

40 years ago the number ones were from the grease soundstrack and Marys boy child jesus christ.

We remember the classics from our youth and not the dross of which there was and always has been an abundance.

There are plenty amazing bands and singer songwriters in Ireland alone at the moment if you are happy to go looking for them.

The older we get we either hear the radio in work or listen to the music we like already so we dont hear they great new music being made

There is more music being produced now than ever which is why there is more crap than ever out there also. Some of the better stuff will be classics in years to come.
