Average household will apparently spend €2700 or so.
But how many will get themselves into a first quarterly debt for 2019 as a result of the unreal expectations and burdens imposed on hard pressed families and households?
Christmas has gone to shite and it’s lost all true meaning.
When I was a child I got a fresh orange and small hand carved wooden gift in an old red sock. I had game poached from a local landowners vast estate and we drank nettle wine. |

I've three kids although my oldest is 21. I always spend same amount on all three of them... it may look that one is getting more than the other but as they get older the amount of presents drop due to the price of things. I don't go over board and not get myself in any financial trouble... |

2700 lol I wish. My budget is 200 at most, any gifts I get are thoughtful and mean something to the person.
nd it's not just now people spend crazy money it's going on years, but if you have it why not. |

I do feel quite conflicted reading these treads and articles.
I love Christmas buying people gifts, the food and all the commercial stuff that goes with it.
Saying that hearing of people struggling to keep up appearances so their children dont feel left out, makes me think I should re-evaluate my spending |

10 days of food and drink jeez. I feel neglected now. We got a lovely dinner Xmas day and that was it, once again this Xmas I am working and I'm not bothered. People need to cop on and realise it's not about theoney it's about family and friends. |

Things add up fast. I will end up spending in and around €1000 maybe a little more going on my quick post-it calc.
By the time I have bought presents for all my immediate family and their kids. I'm several hundred deep already. And keep i things reasonable and under €30 each. With the exception of my parents they get a little more.
Add in the extra few nights out on the town and I'm almost there.

We never get ourselves into debt but I will admit we do spend abit. Its the only time of year we spoil the kids and family. I love everything about Xmas but totally get how it's not like that for everyone. I am a planner though... have been sorting presents for months and it's all well done by now and we can just sit back, relax and enjoy the madness |

As a single working parent of three kids... I spend between 200/300 each on mine... That includes Xmas clothes and what ever is on their Xmas list... Colleagues at work thinks I'm a fool... But the way I feel it's just one day of the year to actually spoil them... And I work extra hours to cover the cost as I'm not going into debt... |

I’ve been volunteering with 2 charities every wk for the past 2 years in the evenings . Always desperate for volunteers . Everyone always wants to help at Xmas which is great but the other 360 days are just as important .. always the 5 days over Xmas we get extra help.. just a thought for 2019. Any extra hours you have in a wk please support more .

That is a very interesting thought... People don't think of that |

We spend what we can afford and no more .Wouldn't dream of getting into debt for christmas presents altho we know lots of people who do .,sad really as most people only buy for the sake of buying or because some one bought a gift for them and they feel obliged to do the same in return . |

Christmas is not about what's under the tree, its about who's around the tree.
It's simple, it's about loving others, what's not simple, is this, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?
I think you will all enjoy this:
