Like him or hate him but he’s back whether we like it or not . I actually feel it’s perfect for him to weather the storm that’s ahead due to the appalling team we have at the moment. Robbie Keane as a young assistant is a very good move for Robbie, and after 2 years Stephen Kenny which is also a good idea . Overall I feel it’s all actually a very clever setup. What do you think ? |

"Ya I agree, shows some forward planning for a change
The forward planning needs to well beyond the senior national team
The whole grassroots system needs a major overhaul"
Absolutely does, national underage league only funded every second year. No continuity for decent players to stay at a high standard. |

Not forward thinking at all. They couldn't appoint Kenny and pay him more in annual salary than they spend on the League of Ireland.
Nor could they double his salary to 200k because then people would ask why is John Delaney on 400k plus 400k pension.
If they appointed McCarthy permanently then they would be accused of same old same old.
And they needed a quick appointment to stop all this talk of over paid under performing CEO.
No. Quick appointment tick all the boxes and get back to snorting at the trough.
No investment in anything not called Delaney. |

Good move for Robbie but is it a good move for the national team. Now I'm a big fan of Robbie but has he done all badges, wasnt he playing in the Indian Super league until now. Is another Double duo what we need.
How about really busting a gut to get Lee Carsley an ex player who they say is one of the most promising coaches in England |

Lee Carey ? Watch this space , people might be laughing now but in 5 years he could be at least a mid table premiership manager like Chris Houghton ???? |

McCarthy return at ipswich was 65%, that means 65% of the time he came away with a point at least.
Roy Keanes return at ipswich was 65%, meaning he was exactly as good a manager as McCarthy.
O'Neil is a better manager than them both and was brought in to try make a team play some football. He has been trying everything, and has someone as qualified as McCarthy as his second in command. It didn't work because they have no heart.
Of course it's great for McCarty, and its great for young Keane, but its a massive step back for football in Ireland, a sport that is 4th most popular sport here, that does not have its own stadium to speak of, that have the nicest fans in the world cause we never expect to do well and just go for a good time.
If youre a casual fan, basically just forget about the Ireland team till you hear they made the world cup, thats what I will do, but I watch the world cup anyway. |

Roy is equal to mick
Martin is better than mick + roy
Yet
Roy + martin was not as good as mick
Sorry, doesnt add up. You cant pick one stat and come to all those conclusions.
The brand of football oneill made us endure was muck. No pressure, no urgency ever. No plan B ever. Always predictable as ever. We will see what mick has to offer second time around but i am sure it will be more entertaining than that.

Alex Ferguson famously let his number 2 take most training sessions. He did fairly o.k |

Im personally not getting why you would appoint a manager till 2020 and then replace him.
Thats 20 months in charge and when a game comes around in march will be a little over a year.
In international terms thats absolutely nothing... seems like a complete waste of time....
If youre going to put Kenny in charge in 2020.... why not now and let him develop his style and his team???
Makes absolutely no sense to me... very disappointed!!!

Maybe he shouldn't have taken Keane and brought his assistant from Celtic. |

At least we have this.
Maybe soccer money could convince Joe to take on the Manager role for the soccer? Not his sport but you'd nearly be guaranteed better results |

"More to the point why is Delaney on such a salary with such a pension?
What does the guy bring to the position that merits such a salary "
Sure it's the Irish way, have a useless Pratt at the top sucking the life out of it. Should have been gone ages ago and it shouldn't be that well paid, if the players ain't getting paid to play for their country. |

Exactly this. Think we could get in Pep Guardiola and it wouldnt make a massive difference at the minute. We don't have the players. Simple as. I know it's hard to compare considering they have a population of around 80 million but Germany are a great example of how investing in a proper youth setup can pay dividends. They had a nightmare around the world cups and euros between 2000-2004. Decided to go back to the grass roots and properly develop and coach the kids. Ended up being the first European team to win a world cup in the Americas. |
