A little story about my family history, my great grand father fought for the 6th battalion South dublin brigade during the Easter rising, and was a stretcher bearer for the injured James Connolly, his brother on the other hand decided to take the queens shilling and fight in France, I have just learned in the last few weeks that he first signed up to the fuseliers in 1898 and went and fought in the Boer war in 1900 in South Africa. To me they where both great men who fought for what they believed in, I believe my great grand uncle went to fight to put food on his families table. I myself will not wear a poppy but it does not mean I don't respect what he done. |

Wearing the poppy seems to have become less about remembrance and more about falling in line.
If I was to wear one, I'd do it because I made the decision to, not because some institution told me I had to. |

There are millions of people who will wear the poppy tomorrow to remember the simple normal geniune people male and female who got sent away from their families to fight a war and go about it quietly with no fuss because wearing it means exactly that.
REMEMBERANCE
I find it disgusting that people just want to turn it into a bullshit blizzard because...actually stuck for words
Because there is absolutely no reason to criticise anybody who wants give a few moments in peaceful rememberance
Especially on a frigging sex/swing internet site ffs

Totally agree. Soldiers died to make this world a better place to live.
I think the least we could do is to wear a poppy in remembrance. |

No they don't
People should be left alone to remember in their own and not criticised in any way
Now go back across the border to Sligo |

"I personally would rather remember the people that stayed at home and died fighting to free our own country from the brutal enemy." What do you think of the Irishmen who fought in both world wars and those that joined the British army ( for varied reasons ) over the years just curious is all...

They did what they thought was right have nothing bad to say about any Irishman that flights for his or her freedom.I would be more worried about what you're supposed Allie's are up to when you're fighting side by side in another country.

As the poster above says Irish men and boys went out to war and didn't come home. Today we remember, least we forgot, this is what happens when politics fails.
I thank them for their sacrifice and their bravery. |

I had a great grand uncle who fought and died at Ypres and a grandfather who fought the black and tans and both had their convictions, both brave men fighting for different causes, both remembered equally.

My poppy is red not green nor orange , its for remembrance and respect for those who gave of themselves . So that ignorant people may have the freedom to mock or ignore, and have the right not to wear one .
My poppy is on myself day and daily , I'll remember my forefathers in the great 16th Irish and 36th Ulster division's without fear no favour.

You are entitled to your opinion and also to wear your poppy with pride... but those that have legitimate objections are not ignorant.

The only way to honour a soldier who died to make the world a better place, is to not have any unjust wars, or support any unjust countries and to strive for equality, peace, and to never waste a single soldiers life again. |

A utopian dream i fear. Where there is men there'll be war. |

Send the politicians, ruling class or elite off with guns, who started the wars in the first place.
Why should the normal people go fight their battles. |

This
If the poppy was just about the events of world war one, then fine. But it's not.
So wear one or don't it's up to you. But just remember it does not just represent those how fought in world War 1. But also goes to those that that committed atrocities around the world. |

Especially since it has nothing to do with freedom.
How about freedom of opinion for one. |

Religion and women.
You can always trace it back to 2 men arguing over 1 or the other
(This is a joke btw, trying to lighten the mood)

I respectfully disagree... since we started flinging rocks and sticks at each other before we started believing in any deity I dont think you can blame it all on religion |
