Wow, just wow.... Just learned about this on the swingers forum, U.K. Only but do you think anything like this will ever be available in Ireland?

"SH:24 is a free online sexual health service, delivered in partnership with the NHS."

They send you free test kit, you send it back and you receive results via text.

"SH:24 makes it easier for people to get tested for the four most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

We provide free test kits, information and advice - 24 hours a day.

It is quick, discreet and completely confidential. "

Wow how much easier would this be. The sense of shame going to these clinics is ridiculous. Anyone going to be checked should be commended. Making sure they're clean and healthy. In Ireland though it's hang your head .. hope no one I know sees me. This might encourage more to get checked and stay healthy

There's tonnes of alternative options for those who prefer to be tested in private. Online kits are a dime a dozen.

Free rapid HIV testing is done around the country at various places.

I personally use Charter Medical in Smithfield. Quick, professional, discrete. Bit costly but worth it.

They advise every 6 months which was my usual but if I'm especially "active" (events etc) then I tend to shorten it to 3 months.

And let's face it, anyone who's sexually active with multiple partners, whether playing safe or not simply needs to accept that a regular STI screen every 3 months is a necessity.

I don't really struggle with the shame bit but unless you go to the gp, clinics especially - although it's good to have them at least - have rather restricted opening hours, for some you need an appointment and sometimes you've to wait for weeks. In the walk in clinics you wait for hours, when you live on the countryside you've to travel miles and miles etc etc

I'm aware that there are plenty of private alternatives, it's the partnership with NHS that is the amazing bit, it makes it accessible for anyone regardless of your financial situation or location. The more accessible sti screening is the more likely people get tested

Not much choice here in Donegal, the clinic in Letterkenny is a dark old place, sometimes I wonder how the walls are still standing.

Unless one travels further south,or goes to the north.

Still waaaaay behind the rest of the country.

When were you there last? It's not so dark, it's bright and clean and airy, and the staff are excellent. No sense of shame and it's a brilliant service.

Not ashamed.

Can't deny the fact the clinic needs updated badly.

Co louth is poor as well. It's nearly just easier to go private and go to Dublin. This is as with the Irish health care system unfair. . A two tiered system

Nothing is for free;)

Taxpayers have to pay for this by the way, so it is not for free. You can order STI kit online and get results in few days. Hiv and AIDS tests must be done in the clinic. All of us have chosen this kind of lifestyle and it's a risk that you may be infected. Do the checks regularly.

Cheers

We're all tax payers, some pay more and some less, some earn more and some less. it doesn't make one better over the other.

Basic health care shouldn't be a question of money or location. improving and sustaining the people's health should be/is a national interest. Guess what will cost the taxpayer more free sti kits or medical care for hiv/AIDS patients?

I just mentioned that nothing is for free. We have to pay for everything and I totally agree with you that for medical expenses the government should spend more money. We pay taxes for everything, so the problem is how the government manages the taxpayers money... Once we pay taxes we should be able to havw easy access to specialists but in real life we know how it looks like
