"When an ex lover says I want to be friends, should a lady just run a mile or maybe we could just be friends. Anyone in the same boat ??"
Just say ya ok, you can always be busy whenever they ask to meet up and eventually they will get in contact less and less |

You can be friends with an ex as long as each of Ye aren’t the type to hold a grudge or get jealous if Ye seen eachother with a new partner |

"No, I drop them like a stone. If we're done, were done.
He wants you as a back-up shag in my cynical opinion."
I do that too and prefer people to do it unless they have kids etc... Nothing worse than having a nosey friendly ex in the background |

Irreguardless it's over "
From experience, a regular meet does eventually becomes a lover when you are just meeting each other. Emotions become involved and the only way is to cut ties totally as either or both end up getting hurt.

There's a general consensus on this that I've read before. If you can manage to stay friends it means you're either a)still in love or b)never were. Personally I don't think it can be done. There'd be an element of jealousy from 1 end or the other eventually when 1 party moves on.
Ex's are ex's for a reason. You're not suited to each other. Clean break and carry on with life. |

My ex is one of my best friends. He's happily married, I always visit and stay with them for a few nights when I visit my home patch and he comes regularly to Ireland and visits me. No sex involved, just really good friends and always there for each other. |

Depends on the nature of the relationship. I'm still aquaintences with some ex fuck buddies. We don't hang out every week but we're friends in social media and meet for a drink the odd time.
I'm also on speaking terms with most of my exes, its just that we don't really move in the sake circles so we don't speak to each other.
If both of you can be emotionally intelligent and mature about it then why not be friends? |

Some of us use the term differently to others, being friendly toward someone doesn't equate with them being a friend in my book,I reserve that term for a select few. |

Nope don’t do it! Run a mile as you said. The best is nip it in the butt straight away you don’t need the hassle. |

Well then, I'm friendly towards them. They're not my enemies, like. |

Perfectly possible and indeed pleasant to remain friends after a relationship ends. I'm lucky enough to count some of my exes among my closest friends and I'll freely admit that I love them. The difference now being I'm not _in_ love with them. I want to see them happy, they wish the same for me.
It's a wonderful thing to be friends with someone who knows you so intimately if everyone involved has the emotional maturity to recognise that relationships can change. |

In most cases it doesn't work to stay friends, there are some rare ones people are friendly or even close, but those are the very rare few.
It gets complicated, you can't really share information, can't talk about your escapades, better to just cut the cord and move on.

Have to agree, and frequently one person wants to end the relationship but the other doesn't, staying "friends" can be more cruel than kind. |
