I don't consider it a waste of money if its something you like...
OP do you not buy things because you simply just like what your buying, maybe that over priced shirt that you really don't need and may only wear occasionally and has no real significance with improving your life
But you buy it simply because you like it |

There's always a reason but you might not agree with the reasons. Some get tattoos simply because they like the look of them. I've none but despite not being one hit artsy I've thought up of a few to get and tried to give them reason. So far I'm not happy with any idea I came up with haha also i was once considering a back tattoo that would have covered my back because I got stretch marks from a big growth spurt as a teen but they faded to the point you'd have to be right up to my back to see them so I pulled that tatt |

But suppose what people do with there own money is there business I was just wondering do some do it for unusual reasons like remember someone on TV saying they liked the pain of getting it done |

I've heard that before, some people get addicted to the pain...
I can understand how they can get addicted, I've a tattoo down my side and after a while you get into a zone were the pain almost becomes enjoyable and relaxing |

Hey OP, i can understand your curiosity but can i just say I personally hate when people say "I don't understand 'random' tattoos"
For me and my tattoos i have some that represent big mile stones in my life, and i have others i got cause i thought they looked cool at the time!
Getting a tattoo doesn't have to have a big meaning, or represent something, it doesn't have to do with a secret love for pain, some people just get tattoos cause tattoos are awesome in certain peoples eyes!
Also as a side note, for anyone out there, i hate when people ask me what my tattoos mean does anyone else feel that way?? |

Yes! I've a few and 1 always gets that question....i wouldn't mind if it didn't take about 5 mins to explain then someone who wasn't paying attention pipes up and asks me to repeat it

I have a few and I'll definitely continue to get them. I do think they can be addictive in a way, not necessarily the pain or anything just the feeling of getting something you like. I agree with what a few people have said above, they don't have to have a profound Miami Ink esque backstory. Mine have some small symbolic meaning to me but I hate having to explain them mostly they're just a bit of stupid fun, they're creative and they're an expression of something for that individual. I like having out because sometimes I feel like it's a way of outwardly expressing yourself to other people, I love seeing someone walk past me with a cool piece. The other thing is that the standard in tattooing has increased hugely in Ireland in the last 5-10 years so I think people might have a bias towards a preconceived notion of what they can be. |

Same here. Personal significance is a huge part of them for me,don't really care what other people make of them |

I found it was a pain I could cope with, maybe because it was on my side and quite big, I would say it would be quite nippy on places like your wrist or ankles
Again it depends on your pain threshold |

Put numbing cream on the area about 2 hrs before you get it done
The tattooist insisted I use it as he said big strapping lads flinch when they have had work done on their sides
I must just have a high pain tolerance, I'm surprised I didn't get a well done sticker from the tattooist when he was finished lol
I even went for a doze while it was getting done lol

Tattoos are like a treat. A self indulgent treat that's just for me. I've quite a few and only my first 2 have any real meaning other than "oooooh pretty pictures" both sides of my ribs have over 18 hours of tattooing on them, the pain isn't nice, but it becomes almost methodical and soothing. But everyone is different. |

How is it wasting money op when it's something you have for life whatever the reason for them. (I've 8 btw). You could say spending money on booze & smokes is a waste of money too all you get is hungover and hard to breath. Our money to spend it how we see fit to |

I think they are great when done right and with a personal meaning behind them plenty of people get tattoos because they just want one and that can be a mistake I know tattoo artists that won't do photos because of tattoos fade and if you get a tattoo and it fades of a loved one it can cause you a lot of emotional distress |

I have about 15 tattoos, some have meaning some mean absolutely nothing,I just like the art work, tattoos aren’t for everyone and your might consider it a waste of money but I’m sure some things you have spent your money on that others might consider a waste of money. But as the saying goes “each to there own” |
