"What is your views on the drug prep ,,does it mean barback for all without worry ? Any one know the ins and outs of this drug ,,"
I've seen it on some profiles and often ment to google it and see what it's all about,
At the moment I wouldn't be throwing the condoms in the bin ! |

I'd say HIV is fairly low down the list of STDs you'd be likely to catch while screwing around.
So safe sex all the way to help prevent the transmission of the others.
Help but not guarantee.... |

Kilkenny, but Dublin is more fun |
As others said, PREP only helps prevent HIV transmission so using it and thinking you're instantly immune from everything else is just mad.
Even if there was medication to prevent every other std, I'd still prefer safe sex over swallowing hundreds of pills a day. |

It is a prevention and effective up to 90% when taken consequently as prescribed which is daily. So there's a rest risk of minimum 10%. It's aimed at highly exposed peeps ie with a hiv infected partner etc. In other words it isn't a free pass for bareback and as others pointed out not the only severe std that is around. Also who would want to take chemicals in a daily basis? |

PREP is PRe Exposure Prophylaxis. It can help prevent HIV and is generally given to people who have had an incident where they could be at risk - broken condom, needle stick injury etc. It is not a vaccine. They are even talking about not giving it out as freely in clinics now as it seems it is resulting in certain groups using it instead of wearing condoms and as such promoting risky behaviour. It has been a great advancement but like anything else it shouldn't be abused. It's no substitute for safe sex. |

That is post exposure nd is completely different drug
Prep is pre exposure. You take before potential risky sex
And prep is 92 to 99% effective. |

Truvada which is used as PrEp can also be used as PEp but is the only one that serves both purposes
The whole reason PrEp came about was because of PEp. There's more than likely a cure out there but pays more to treat something rather than cure |

It's great that some of the less informed no longer seem to be members.
Prep is fantastic, cheap and 100% effective against HIV.
If you're a modern day player then I'd recommend it. I'm vaccinated against Hep A & B and I take Prep 4 times a week (Ts&Ss), I've also had a vasectomy.
Before I meet my play partners, I give them the full honest run down - it gives everyone options & protection. It's called informed consent. Just because I'm protected it DOESN'T MEAN BAREBACKING is obligatory.
As far as any other STIs, they're rarer than society makes out. Avoid the great unwashed, sniff out the liars and fakes, an oral examination is usually a good measure before dipping further in.
