Bit risky going for a derv of that age. Defo stick to petrol. Also bear in mind that rare is nice but will be difficult to source even the simplest of parts for. Manta YES! There are a lot of nice Capris out there priced well.
Both look great with a naughty wife bent over the bonnet! |

"Corrado hands down
It is a good classic alright!
My all time favourite. Rare, has a fierce look and that active spoiler "
They're not that rare but I think I may go for a 1.9 D Jetta she'd go on the gas oil |

Stay away from Audi 100 with 5cylinder diesel, was a known cylinder head fault. Audi recycled heads so was hard to get second hand( lol impossible really) got it repaired in the end was cheap considering. Fault was bad casting which lead to crack to oil gallery. Otherwise a great car

For more smiles per miles, go for a Westfield/Caterham.
Downside is that you do need to keep it in a garage and it really is just a sunshine car.
Upside, great fun to drive, very simple to maintain, cheap to insure, lots of club outings/trackdays/roadtrips.
The advice on avoiding the oil burners is correct.........avoid avoid avoid.
If you really want to shoot the pool, a jag 6litre V12 convertible. Hard to get with good bodywork and innards. Easy to convert to LPG.

I'm old school VW all the way. MkI GTI convertible is another favourite. Although if you're looking for diesel then that won't work! |

Agree with a poster above. A Porsche 944 is a great investment. They have doubled in price the last 3 years from 2-3k to 5-6k at the moment. If I had spare cash and space I’d invest in one. Great car to drive and will definitely appreciate in value. |

Good choice alright but they do have there own issues(mostly rust and electrics).
924 is better car if slightly under powered but easier to maintain |

I would definitely go for diesel, the carina E in diesel ran for ever, getting harder to come by these days, a few early 90's still about and vintage soon enough, I have 93 one litre turbo diesel charade, going cheap, very very rare and cheap tax.... ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |
