Ohhh I don't think it will go back up . Id put a sheet over the stove open the door and get it asap. Have a pathway to an open door ready. There will be a bit of a clean up though.

The only way I’d suggest is open the windows & blinds fully in the room the stove is in, put dust sheets on the couches etc & open the stove & hopefully the bird will fly straight out. It won’t be able to go back out the way it came in through the flue.

Get a clear bin bag. Or failing that a black one will probably do, and cover the opening you want him to come out through. When you get him in the bag, take it outside and let him free. I thought a clear one might be better for you to see him go in.

It's definitely scared, almost had it but he went up the chimney a bit. He's back down now so I'll try again. Lucky he didnt fly out into the room.

Guarantee it'll fly straight into the glass and possibly get concussion or worse break it's neck.

Cover up the glass and leave windows open then open oven door.

And risk getting bird poo all over the room, no thanks. It's too quick to grab it so going with the towel idea now.

Fear of birds is a real thing, you might not be so brave in his shoes.

I think the advice he gave you is spot on. The bird will go straight for the glass so covering it up means he can only go for the open window. And he'll be in such a rush to get out, there'll not be much time for poop.

If it's one of those cone shaped ones that u see oh 80% of chimneys, they are only perches for Crows to drop kippings in to ur chimney

The one u need has a S/S China man's hat and mesh wire to cover the smoke opening and will strap on to any 8 or 9 inch flue liner, about €50 and any decent hardware store

Pull all the curtains(except one) and have the light off. Leave one window/patio open, he’ll make straight for the light.
