I did it twice over two years ago when it was a blatantly racist post. However I long changed my tactics and rather than reporting I prefer to highlight a post so that as many peeps as possible can see it and become aware of the person's attitude. |

Only once as a guy practically gave away our actual location on a thread -other than that I would only report if I thought it was racist or homophobic or something more worrying !! |

I Personally don't get why people report. 1) mods can see it or so I was told before as there is loads going around and 2) If a person says something you don't like, take them up on it or just skip by. we all sign up here as strangers so I don't understand for the life of me why a strangers post will bother you, a person who won't effect your life in any way shape or form. |

"I have. Last year. Someone posted a thread not naming me but I knew it was coming. They didn't get the reaction they wanted and deleted their account. . "
Same as i reported a thread last year where i actually was named and bullied in |

That's fully understandable and what the report button is there for. |

Ive noticed now and then some peeps become self appointed fab sheriffs and use the report button to get a poster/s they dislike temporarily locked up (ban) or sometimes it even ends in a life time sentence.

Surely reporting in itself isn't going to get someone in trouble unless they've actually broken some rules? I presume that admin will look at the report and the offending post/s rather than just reading the report and issuing a ban? |

I would have thought so,if you're repeatedly breaking the forums rules then surely you only have yourself to blame if it results in a ban? |

I knew this argument would come up, and yes you're responsible what you're posting but some forum rules are wide open for interpretation ie 'deliberate or malicious disruption' of the forum or 'don't be personal' and it's easy enough to report someone on that ground especially when a poster is a bit controversial. I just think it's a shame when every little fart is reported. |

I haven’t as yet but I’d have no trouble reporting a post that was demeaning and completely disrespectful to another person. Or racist or sexist.
I came close earlier this week but then thought better for women to know of this person’s ignorance and views.
Common sense test in my opinion. |

Indeed, but at the end of the day all "rules" are open to interpretation. One person's banter is another's personal attack. Some people do seem to develop a fixation with others, can't legislate for psychological issues. |

I won't report anyone. have no interest in doing so. sure if a person referred to you as thick/ stupid you could report them. it reminds me of someone running to the teacher in school when somebody says something to you or somebody else that you don't like |

True, however without moderation, forums would be chaos. And there aren't enough mods to read every single post. But yeah, I'm of the opinion that abusive posts speak for themselves. If only people had the sense to park their egos and ignore the trolls |

I reported a post there a few days ago for homophoboic slurs.
The attitude of "if you don't like it just ignore it" is wrong. It allows people to get away with stuff that wouldn't go down unchecked in 'reality' so why should it here. It also normalises views that hurt other people and really shouldn't be tolerated. |

Never reported for the forums and agree as often how we read a post can be misread but if I did feel that what was written was completly disrespeful or in any way bullying then I would report it |

So you think that reporting people is on a par like kids in a school playground? Yet youve been told theres people who have reported you? Similar to tittle tattle kids in a playground that run to teacher? But yet you listen to the whispers instead of ignoring them. Yep..that makes sense alright! |

I did only once. I got sloppy I mentioned a third person (in a good light )by nick name , a person then made threats of violence to me . I reported them and asked the thread to be taken down . It was promptly, and I think the silly person had their account closed ,10 out of 10 admin . I learned my lesson . Harry |

A lot of people sailing dangerously close to the wind here in what they are sharing.
Having been banned a few times and having referenced the forum posting advice page on a number of previous occasions, much of what is posted above, here, breaches rules for discussing forum bans in the first place.
Someone could actually report this thread and in all likelihood it would get taken down even though everyone seems sincere on it and there is no argument..!!
While there do not seem to be a lot of admins/moderators, due to their workload they have to make snap judgements on things and - from my experience - simply don’t have the time to engage in appeals or context. So band are just a fact of life here.
(Note to admins: please don’t ban me for sharing my opinions |

Oh the clumsy fingers...
I try again
Nobody discussed forum bans received or their reasons or doubted the mods and their decisions. All what was discussed is reporting, why and when. Yes, there could be peeps that could be offended by certain posts and report it, like it happens on other threads, it would just prove some points made.

There’s a lot more to it than abusing people. You could get banned for something pretty innocuous just because you didn’t know.
Read the guidelines and you’ll be surprised.. |
